Responsibilities

  • Reviews complaints filed with the Commission on Ethics which are determined legally sufficient to state a violation of the Code of Ethics for Public Officers and Employees and prepares Advocate's Recommendation for each case, which requires analysis of case facts and research of applicable case law and Opinions of the Commission on Ethics, as well as consultation with Commission staff. The senior assistant attorney general will have greater responsibility for the more sensitive and complex cases. These cases frequently have statewide impact and influence the policy direction of state government. These cases frequently involve emergencies regarding matters of great public importance where response time is minimal and demands are great. • Makes oral presentations of recommendations before Commission on Ethics and responds to questions from Commission and arguments of counsel for Respondents.
