About The Position

This position provides service to customers, sorts and stocks incoming product, and assists in the ongoing retail operations of a Thrift Store. The role contributes to the broader mission and values of The Salvation Army, upholding standards of service that reflect its spiritual and social commitment to the community.

Requirements

  • Completion of High School.
  • A minimum of 1 year of related experience.
  • An alternative level or combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
  • Work in compliance with OH&S Act and Regulations and abide by The Salvation Army’s health and safety policies and procedures.
  • Ability to exercise care and responsibility in handling Salvation Army property and assets.
  • Good oral communication skills.
  • Good organizational, time management, and prioritization skills.
  • Self-directed, reliable, and able to take initiative with minimal supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Demonstrated patience, understanding, and professionalism in all interactions.
  • High level of integrity, confidentiality, and professionalism, with sound judgment and balanced flexibility.
  • Ability to undergo applicable screening and background checks successfully that are satisfactory to The Salvation Army, in its sole discretion.

Responsibilities

  • Support delivery of excellent customer and donor service by creating a welcoming environment, responding to inquiries, and accurately completing transactions in accordance with store procedures.
  • Open and close the store as required, following established procedures, and help ensure a safe, secure, and compliant work environment.
  • Support merchandise flow by replenishing stock, assisting with inventory control, and preparing unsold items for recycling when appropriate.
  • Support store presentation through visual merchandising, display setup, and regular upkeep of a clean and organized sales floor.
  • Accurately process sales transactions using cash, debit, and credit, while adhering to policies on refunds, voids, and item holds.
  • Receive and sort donations, ensuring proper handling, pricing, and storage in line with quality and safety standards.
  • May support coordination of daily store activities and assist in scheduling work assignments in the Store Manager’s absence as directed.
  • Support onboarding of new staff through on-the-job training as directed.
  • Represent the organization in a respectful and professional manner, reflecting the mission and values of The Salvation Army.
  • Other related duties as assigned.
