Senior Associate Scientist, Purification, RNA Process Development

Bristol Myers Squibb•Cambridge, MA
•$96,010 - $116,339

About The Position

The RNA Purification Process Development function designs efficient, robust, and scalable manufacturing processes for RNA drug substance programs. The Senior Associate Scientist executes experiments spanning early- to late-stage development across circular and linear mRNA modalities and contributes hands-on experimental work and manufacturing support. Reporting to the Principal Scientist, the role focuses on developing and characterizing chromatography and filtration steps to improve purification process yield, quality, and robustness.

Requirements

  • Degree in Bio/Chemical Engineering, Bio/Chemistry, or a related field.
  • Bachelor of Science degree with 4 or more years of experience in science-related disciplines, or a Master of Science degree with 2 or more years of experience in science-related disciplines.
  • Knowledge of chromatography, filtration (TFF/UF-DF), and innovative separation unit operations.
  • Working knowledge of statistical design of experiments (DoE) and multivariate data analysis.
  • Experience performing process analytics and biophysical characterization techniques such as HPLC, CE, and gel electrophoresis.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of cGMP, ICH, regulatory guidelines, and QbD principles as they apply to risk management and clinical manufacturing.
  • Background providing technical support for clinical manufacturing processes, including process investigations and implementation of proactive process modifications.
  • Knowledge of advanced mathematics, nucleic acid chemistry, lipid chemistry, and biology.
  • Knowledge of establishing and qualifying scale-down models and mechanistic models for process characterization.

Responsibilities

  • Execute and analyze experiments for existing and novel process modes.
  • Support RNA drug substance purification process definition and scale-up.
  • Conduct experiments using high-throughput, automated, or data-rich experimental setups.
  • Support experiments to confirm robust process performance across the control space.
  • Collaborate with analytical teams to deepen characterization of RNA properties and impurity profiles.
  • Collaborate with upstream process development to characterize the IVT feed stream and maximize RNA yield and purity.
  • Prepare sections of technical reports and communicate findings internally as appropriate.
  • Participate in technology transfer activities to GMP manufacturing sites for RNA programs.

Benefits

  • Comprehensive benefit plans, including wellbeing support, retirement and financial protection benefits, and medical, dental, vision, life, and disability insurance offerings.
  • Flexible Time Off for eligible U.S.-based exempt employees, subject to manager approval.
  • Paid vacation for eligible non-exempt employees, RayzeBio employees, and employees located in Puerto Rico.
  • 11 paid company holidays annually.
  • Three optional holidays for eligible non-exempt employees, RayzeBio employees, and employees located in Puerto Rico.
  • Depending on eligibility, paid sick leave, up to two paid volunteer days per year, summer-hours flexibility, and leaves of absence for medical, personal, parental, caregiver, bereavement, or military needs.
