About The Position

Bessemer Venture Partners is seeking a Senior Associate to join its growth investing team in San Francisco. This role will focus on AI apps, infrastructure, defense, techbio, energy, and other emerging areas. The Senior Associate will work directly with Byron Deeter and collaborate with partners across the firm to identify and support companies building the next generation of software. The position requires a deep understanding of businesses, strong relationship-building skills with founders and executives, and a proactive approach to deal sourcing and support. The role involves thesis development, market analysis, sourcing new investments, leading due diligence (financial modeling, cohort analysis, market sizing, customer calls), synthesizing findings into investment recommendations, and supporting portfolio companies with strategic advice and connections. The ideal candidate is energized by the detailed work involved in growth investing, combining relationship building with analytical rigor.

Requirements

  • 3–6+ years of experience in investment banking, consulting, private equity, growth equity, high-growth startups, or traditional venture capital.
  • Strong financial modeling, valuation, and company analysis skills.
  • Genuine interest in software and AI, with an understanding of current product trends and future directions.
  • Natural relationship-building skills, with the ability to connect with founders, executives, and co-investors.
  • Exceptional work ethic: entrepreneurial, resourceful, humble, takes full ownership, willing to tackle tasks big or small, and cares about accuracy over credit.
  • Independent thinking, fast learner, and proactive doer.
  • Willingness to travel regularly, work late nights, and engage in intense sprints, including founder dinners, conferences, and trips.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior venture experience is a plus but not required.
  • Ability to go from a messy data room to a defensible view.

Responsibilities

  • Develop investment theses and refine roadmaps for market focus.
  • Map relevant companies, track their progress, and build relationships with founders and executives.
  • Lead financial modeling, cohort and retention analysis, market sizing, customer calls, and competitive analysis for live deals.
  • Synthesize research and analysis into clear investment recommendations.
  • Support portfolio companies with KPIs, board preparation, introductions, and follow-on financings.
