About The Position

A highly respected and growing law firm is seeking a Senior Associate or Counsel to join its Commercial Litigation practice in New York, with a primary focus on Title IX and Education Law. This is an exceptional opportunity for an experienced litigator who is passionate about advising educational institutions on sensitive, high-profile matters involving campus investigations, disciplinary proceedings, civil rights issues, and related litigation. The successful candidate will work closely with educational institutions, administrators, and firm leadership on complex legal matters requiring sound judgment, exceptional advocacy skills, and the ability to navigate highly sensitive and confidential issues. This position offers meaningful client interaction, sophisticated litigation work, and the opportunity to become a trusted advisor within a growing and nationally recognized education practice.

Requirements

  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • 8-12 years of experience
  • Active New York Bar admission.
  • Significant commercial litigation experience, ideally at the senior associate or counsel level.
  • Experience handling investigations, hearings, and complex litigation.
  • Exceptional legal research, writing, and advocacy skills.
  • Ability to manage sensitive and confidential matters with professionalism and sound judgment.
  • Strong interpersonal and client counseling skills.

  • Experience representing colleges, universities, or other educational institutions.
  • Title IX investigations and hearing experience.
  • Familiarity with student and faculty disciplinary proceedings.
  • Experience handling civil rights, discrimination, defamation, or education-related litigation.
  • Ability to independently manage complex matters while collaborating effectively with partners and clients.

Responsibilities

  • Represent educational institutions in matters involving Title IX compliance, investigations, and hearings.
  • Advise clients on student and faculty disciplinary proceedings.
  • Handle matters involving academic misconduct and institutional policy enforcement.
  • Counsel clients on special education issues and related regulatory matters.
  • Represent clients in civil rights, discrimination, and defamation matters.
  • Manage litigation from initial strategy through resolution, including pleadings, discovery, motion practice, hearings, and trial preparation.
  • Conduct internal investigations and prepare detailed investigative findings and recommendations.
  • Collaborate with partners to develop legal strategies while maintaining strong client relationships.
