Job Description: Job Family Definition Provides technical and program leadership for the engineering development and implementation of complex ASIC and VLSI products. Programs are typically long‑term, multi‑functional, and multi‑project in nature, with significant technical depth and cross‑company dependencies. Manages activities, resource capability, schedules, and budgets while ensuring effective communication across engineering, operations, and external partners to deliver products on schedule and within budget. Works with engineering management to identify and improve process and program efficiencies. Work involves engagement with external parties such as vendors, partners, and industry organizations. This role is specifically focused on HPE Slingshot high‑performance networking products, including switch and NIC silicon programs that support large‑scale HPC and AI systems. Job Level Definition Contributions have a sustained impact on core technical components of HPE products, solutions, or services. Applies advanced subject‑matter knowledge to solve complex technical and business challenges and is regarded as a subject‑matter expert in technical program leadership. Exercises significant independent judgment to determine the best methods for achieving program objectives. Provides leadership, influence, and mentoring across matrixed, cross‑functional engineering organizations and may participate in cross‑company initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent.
  • PMP / PMI certification preferred.
  • Typically 6–10+ years of experience managing complex ASIC or VLSI development programs.
  • Demonstrated hands‑on experience with ASIC or VLSI design and physical implementation processes.
  • Strong, practical understanding of ASIC design flows and sign‑off criteria.
  • Extensive experience using project and program planning tools to create, manage, and track execution of complex programs.
  • Excellent analytical, problem‑solving, and risk‑management skills.
  • Demonstrated business acumen and successful experience managing all aspects of programs, including communication with stakeholders and leadership of matrixed teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present complex technical information clearly to senior leadership and external partners.
  • Experience driving execution planning artifacts (integrated schedules, dependency tracking, working spreadsheets) used to manage complex silicon programs end‑to‑end.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience delivering ASICs or products for high‑performance computing (HPC) and/or high‑performance networking environments.
  • Familiarity with large‑scale switch ASICs and/or high‑performance NIC designs.
  • Working knowledge of high‑speed networking technologies and protocols such as Ethernet (including high‑speed variants), PCIe, CXL, RDMA, and related interconnect semantics used in HPC and AI clusters.
  • Familiarity with Ultra Ethernet and the Ultra Ethernet Consortium (UEC), including next‑generation Ethernet semantics optimized for HPC and AI scale‑out workloads.
  • Experience coordinating silicon programs that integrate tightly with system‑level hardware, firmware, and software stacks.
  • Understanding of performance, latency, bandwidth, and reliability requirements for large‑scale HPC and AI networking fabrics.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical coordination and program leadership for end‑to‑end execution of Slingshot switch and NIC ASIC programs, spanning architecture alignment, design, verification, validation, bring‑up, and production readiness.
  • Develop and drive integrated execution plans, including schedules, critical deliverables, budgets, and resource allocation for complex Slingshot silicon programs.
  • Track execution progress, risks, dependencies, and mitigation or recovery plans across design, verification, physical implementation, and manufacturing readiness.
  • Serve as a primary interface between silicon engineering, system architecture, hardware, firmware, software, validation, operations, and the production supply chain to ensure program‑wide dependencies and deliverables are aligned and available.
  • Communicate program status, issues, risks, and escalation plans to senior leadership and key stakeholders, providing clear, data‑driven assessments and recommendations.
  • Manage internal and external development partners, including design services, IP vendors, foundries, and packaging partners, ensuring alignment with Slingshot product roadmaps and execution expectations.
  • Drive alignment between business demand, design quality (verification and validation requirements), performance targets, and partner constraints typical of high‑performance networking and HPC products.
  • Lead execution through manufacturing milestones, including tape‑out readiness, silicon bring‑up, yield learning, and production ramp.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to less‑experienced program managers and engineers, promoting best practices for execution of large‑scale silicon programs.
