About The Position
The Spatial Intelligence Experiences team is seeking a senior software engineer to lead application and experience development at the intersection of Spatial Computing and Generative AI. The role involves using Apple Intelligence capabilities, prototyping ideas, and shipping polished user-facing features for experiences such as Siri AI and Image Playground across iOS, macOS, and iPadOS. The engineer will lead development of customer-facing spatial computing features powered by AI, including embodied conversational assistants and generative spatial experiences. They will own the end-to-end user experience, taking ideas from prototype through technical specification and production code, while maintaining a strong focus on user value, UI/UX quality, and Apple’s shipping standards. The role requires close collaboration with engineering, design, and quality assurance teams, including teams responsible for software dependencies. The engineer will optimize features for mobile compute and power constraints, use modern AI-assisted development tools and agentic workflows, and contribute as an independent, proactive senior team member.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s, master’s, or doctoral degree in Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- At least 5 years of experience owning and shipping consumer-facing applications or user experience features.
- Strong computer science fundamentals and strong 3D math and linear algebra fundamentals.
- Proficiency in Swift, Objective-C, or C++.
- Familiarity with UI frameworks such as SwiftUI and UIKit.
- Experience solving technical challenges across multiple software-stack layers, including diagnosing events from application code, UI frameworks, system frameworks, and backend LLMs.
- Fluency with agentic development tools and workflows for accelerating coding, debugging, and testing.
- Experience collaborating with design teams to iterate on UI feature implementation and polish.
- Ability to clearly articulate problems and explain trade-offs between software solution options.
- Experience optimizing software running on mobile platforms to meet demanding power and performance targets.
Nice To Haves
- Experience with 3D graphics APIs and/or game engines, and demonstrated experience shipping interactive 3D applications on consumer platforms such as mobile, web, game consoles, or VR.
- Experience leading projects or complex features as a technical lead, including architecture definition, stakeholder alignment on specifications and KPIs, and coordination through release milestones.
- Experience prototyping and developing user experiences powered by evolving LLM capabilities, such as generative imagery use cases that expand an underlying diffusion model’s capabilities.
- Familiarity with AI feature development, including prompting, model fine-tuning, and evaluation.
Responsibilities
- Ship customer-facing spatial computing features powered by AI, such as embodied conversational assistants and generative spatial experiences.
- Own features end to end, with a strong focus on UI/UX polish.
- Take ideas from prototype through technical specification to production code.
- Keep user pain points and product value central, applying product and design judgment to lead through ambiguity.
- Collaborate with engineering teams whose software the features depend on, as well as design and quality assurance teams.
- Optimize software for mobile platforms with constrained compute and power, meeting performance and power targets.
- Use LLM-assisted development tools and agentic workflows to advance coding, debugging, and testing through release milestones.
- Work independently and proactively, build cross-functional relationships, and help the engineering team operate efficiently.
- Drive projects or complex features as a technical lead, including defining architecture, aligning specifications and KPIs with design and performance stakeholders, and coordinating with dependency engineering and QA teams through release milestones.
- Prototype and develop new user experiences powered by evolving LLM capabilities.
- Diagnose technical issues across application, UI framework, system framework, and backend LLM layers.
- Collaborate with design teams to iterate on UI implementation and polish.
