About The Position

The Senior Application Performance Engineer diagnoses and optimizes application performance end to end, working across application, operating system, middleware, and network layers. The role focuses on high-impact challenges affecting users’ quality of experience, including complex performance issues involving latency, throughput, and availability. The engineer owns optimization efforts from root-cause identification through resolution planning and performance improvement, and collaborates with development, systems, and network teams. The position operates at a high tempo and requires self-management of tasks according to communicated priorities. The engineer also mentors less-senior engineers in monitoring, instrumentation, and performance troubleshooting. The role is located in Washington, DC, and requires an active TS clearance and the ability to obtain TS/SCI.

Requirements

  • At least 8 years of experience in application performance optimization, systems engineering, or network engineering in secure or cleared environments.
  • Active TS clearance and ability to obtain TS/SCI.
  • Demonstrated progressive responsibility and ownership indicative of senior expertise.
  • DoD 8140 compliance required.
  • Expertise in application and middleware performance monitoring, including web applications, databases, and APIs.
  • Deep understanding of TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP/S, SSL/TLS, and related protocols.
  • Expertise and hands-on experience with load balancers, firewalls, and packet capture and analysis tools such as Wireshark and tcpdump.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with APM platforms.
  • Familiarity with system-level troubleshooting across operating system and network layers.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and optimize application performance end to end, from operating systems and middleware through packet-level analysis.
