Senior Performance Engineer

Salesforce•Boston, MA
•$148,500 - $246,000

About The Position

Salesforce is hiring a Senior Performance Engineer for Agentforce Operations, an AI-powered platform for designing, automating, and orchestrating end-to-end supply-chain business processes. The team operates as a high-velocity startup-within-Salesforce, with the autonomy of a small team and the backing of Salesforce. The role joins the team as customer adoption accelerates and the product faces scaling, reliability, observability, and performance challenges. The engineer will develop a deep understanding of the product architecture and deliver end-to-end optimizations across the stack to improve scalability, resilience, reliability, and performance. Areas of focus include data-model optimization, asynchronous operations, infrastructure profiling and rightsizing, and building tools and observability to run experiments and validate outcomes. As the application-performance subject matter expert, the engineer will operate with meaningful autonomy, align work across engineering, raise system quality, mentor peers, and help the team meet ambitious scaling goals.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of industry experience as a backend engineer building and operating user-facing applications and their underlying infrastructure.
  • Mastery of Golang, GraphQL, and Postgres, with demonstrated experience delivering high-performance optimizations.
  • Experience with a major public cloud provider; AWS is preferred.
  • Deep expertise in multiple backend engineering areas, such as data modeling, database performance tuning, state management, API design, transactionality, concurrency, memory management, fault tolerance, and scaling.
  • Repeated ownership of foundational system work in complex distributed systems, from diagnosing architectural problems through designing solutions and driving team adoption.
  • Excellent writing and speaking skills, including the ability to lead real-time technical-design discussions.
  • Demonstrated ownership and accountability, high standards, continuous improvement, and low-ego collaboration.

Nice To Haves

  • B.S. in Computer Science; M.S. preferred.
  • AWS experience, specifically with RDS, ElastiCache, S3, and EKS.
  • Exposure to Temporal, Istio, or Typesense.
  • Experience with CI/CD systems, specifically Jenkins and Spinnaker.
  • Exposure to the supply-chain, logistics, or manufacturing industry.
  • Familiarity with the Salesforce platform.
  • Experience with workflow engines.

Responsibilities

  • Diagnose and prioritize architectural problems across distributed backend systems, helping the team invest in foundational work at the right time.
  • Design and implement solutions to system problems, including application-performance optimization, infrastructure management, and data-model improvements.
  • Establish and maintain pragmatic engineering standards, guardrails, and practices that prevent regressions and keep the product healthy and performant.
  • Collaborate with customer, product, and engineering peers to understand customer needs, make pragmatic tradeoffs, and align on engineering realities.
  • Mentor engineers as a senior peer, sharing expertise in backend architecture and system design while strengthening engineering judgment and collaboration.
  • Develop tools and observability to run experiments and empirically validate performance and scaling improvements.
