Senior Anti-Tamper Engineer

HII's Mission Technologies division•Dayton, OH
•$131,604 - $170,000•Onsite

About The Position

HII – Mission Technologies is seeking a Senior Anti-Tamper Engineer to support a highly classified program at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. The position requires an active TS/SCI clearance and experience in a Special Access Program (SAP) environment. The engineer will apply a thorough understanding of the DoD systems engineering process and acquisition, manufacturing, fielding, sustainment, modernization, and disposal of weapons systems and capabilities, with emphasis on Program Protection planning and microelectronics. Expertise in integrated circuitry, industry-standard processors, and memory chips is highly desired, as is familiarity with methods for reverse engineering electronic systems and integrated circuitry. The position supports requirements identification, evaluation, testing, and integration; technology and product acquisitions; assessment of capabilities against design requirements; and protection of Critical Program Information (CPI). The engineer will work with DoD Anti-Tamper Evaluation Teams and industry to assess vulnerabilities and improve anti-tamper and anti-exploitation measures across weapons-system development and lifecycle activities. Preferred work also includes systems engineering analyses and integration, lifecycle support, teaching anti-tamper course modules, and creating, coordinating, and publishing collateral and SAP Security Classification Guides (SCGs).

Requirements

  • Experience with Program Protection planning and implementation in weapons-system programs.
  • Experience evaluating fielded weapons systems for anti-tamper and reverse-engineering susceptibility based on vendor design.
  • Experience identifying susceptibility of critical protected information to exploitation and reverse engineering.
  • Experience identifying methods to improve the resistance of current and future electronic circuits to reverse engineering and exploitation.
  • Experience supporting development of industry and DoD standards for future weapons systems to improve resistance to reverse-engineering exploitation.
  • Experience working with industry to assess tamper resistance of weapons systems during the acquisition development cycle.
  • Experience in an electronic exploitation lab environment, using or being familiar with state-of-the-art exploitation equipment and instrumentation to evaluate processors, memory units, and electronic circuits, identify weaknesses and design improvements, and develop standards to deter technological exploitation.
  • At least 10 years of experience and a Master of Science, Master of Arts, or higher degree in a relevant engineering discipline; alternatively, a bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering discipline and 15 years of engineering experience with the DoD, another government agency, or a DoD contractor.
  • At least three years of experience in an SAP environment within the last eight years.
  • Active TS/SCI clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in integrated circuitry, industry-standard processors, and memory chips.
  • Familiarity with methodologies for reverse engineering electronic systems and integrated circuitry.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support for requirements identification, evaluation, testing, and integration, particularly Program Protection planning and anti-tamper methodologies.
  • Support technology and product acquisitions, including long-term planning, request for proposal development, and technical oversight of ongoing projects.
  • Assess acquired capabilities against system design requirements and specifications.
  • Identify technologies and evaluate system and subsystem design functions and improvements to protect Critical Program Information (CPI).
  • Develop plans to assess the security features of GOTS and COTS components for CPI susceptibility to vulnerability, exploitation, and reverse engineering.
  • Work with DoD Anti-Tamper Evaluation Teams to understand current designs and identify vulnerabilities to foreign and adversary exploitation.
  • Assist efforts to improve anti-tamper and anti-exploitation design, development, manufacturing, training, and sustainment for U.S. weapons systems.
  • Assist in translating user requirements into system requirements for designing, developing, fabricating, testing, and evaluating systems, subsystems, and equipment.
  • Assist with developing requirements and technology needs into action plans and policies.
  • Perform technical and mission analyses, help develop system concepts, and perform technology and trade-off assessments.
  • Develop and review the overall system design baseline, including architecture and interoperability requirements.
  • Review and analyze proposals, specifications, and interface control documents.
  • Support or conduct engineering performance, effectiveness, cost, lifecycle, producibility, maintainability, supportability, reliability, technical, and schedule risk assessments and trade-off studies.
  • Support or conduct systems analyses and support the development and evaluation of Integrated Master Plans, Integrated Master Schedules, engineering detail schedules, and cost estimates.
  • Participate in system, subsystem, and component testing, and provide integration support for acquisition, development, and verification.
  • Support weapons-system lifecycle activities.
  • Teach anti-tamper learning modules to industry and government participants and assist with curriculum development, as required.
  • Lead technical writing and maintenance of multiple collateral and SAP Security Classification Guides (SCGs).
  • Coordinate and staff SCGs with DoD service and industry security, technical, financial, and contracting working groups; review and adjudicate feedback for approval.
  • Staff and publish SCGs for the DoD anti-tamper community.
