Senior Analytics Engineer, People Data and Insights

The New York Times•New York, NY
•$160,000 - $185,000•Hybrid

About The Position

The New York Times is rebuilding how it uses people data by creating governed, reusable data tools for HR leaders, HR partners, and their counterparts. The Senior Analytics Engineer will transform people data from multiple systems, each with its own definitions and history, into a modeled, tested, and documented foundation that supports repeatable products. This role leads the models, transformations, and data quality behind the team’s products and reports to the Senior Director, People Data and Insights. The position works from the New York office on a hybrid schedule. The role designs and maintains data models and databases; oversees the transformation layer from source systems into governed models; turns metric definitions into executable logic; builds testing, validation, and reconciliation into data pipelines; and works with a Program Manager to translate product requirements into models. It also ensures effective-dated and historical data support accurate point-in-time reporting, implements access controls for sensitive data, and documents models and lineage. The successful candidate supports journalistic independence and the Times’ mission to seek the truth and help people understand the world.

  • Handle effective-dated and historical data correctly so point-in-time questions receive point-in-time answers.
