Senior Analyst, Search Measurements and Analytics

CarMax•Richmond, VA
•$88,400 - $132,600•Onsite

About The Position

The Senior Analyst, Search Measurements and Analytics owns measurement, analysis, and causal inference for CarMax’s paid search programs, which support both vehicle sales and vehicle sourcing. The role determines whether results are caused by paid search rather than merely correlated with it, and provides rigorous, data-backed recommendations for investment and optimization. Working with a Senior Manager and a small team of analysts, the position has substantial autonomy and informs decisions made by media activation, planning, and program leads. The analyst prioritizes an analytics backlog; designs and interprets experiments; builds trusted data foundations, models, and dashboards; develops monthly marginal return on investment (mROI) curves to inform budgets; and independently evaluates agency reporting. The role also contributes to portfolio-level budget allocation and channel strategy, and partners with media planners and program leads on cross-channel measurement, including media mix modeling, multi-touch attribution, and incrementality testing. The position is based at the CarMax Midtown Office / Technology Innovation Center in Richmond, Virginia, and is onsite four days per week. Sponsorship is not available.

  • Familiarity with marketing measurement methodologies such as incrementality testing, media mix modeling, or multi-touch attribution.
  • Experience building and maintaining reports or dashboards in a BI tool such as Tableau, Looker, or similar.
  • A track record of turning ambiguous data into specific, actionable recommendations and communicating them clearly to analysts and executives.
  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as statistics, economics, math, or marketing analytics, or equivalent practical experience.

  • Independently validate agency-delivered analysis and reporting, pressure-test findings, and set quality expectations for agency partners.
  • Translate ambiguous business questions into structured analyses and specific recommendations.
  • Contribute to portfolio-level budget allocation and channel strategy discussions.
