Senior Analog Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer - TeraWave

Blue Origin•San Diego, CA
•Onsite

About The Position

Blue Origin is seeking a Senior Analog Mixed-Signal IC Design Engineer for TeraWave, its satellite communications network. The role participates in and/or leads development of high-speed data converters, filters, amplifiers, ESD protection, biasing, and power-management systems using advanced CMOS and SiGe processes. The engineer will deliver high-performance circuits and contribute to solutions supporting TeraWave’s RF payloads and terminals. The position is based onsite in San Diego, California, or Cupertino, California. A temporary remote-work exception is approved while Blue Origin’s San Diego sites are being developed. Relocation is provided, travel of up to 10% is expected, and interviews include a technical assessment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • At least 7 years of industry experience designing and developing high-performance analog/mixed-signal integrated circuits and systems.
  • Expertise in designing data converters, including ADCs and DACs.
  • Proficiency in mixed-mode and analog/RF modeling, simulation, and verification methodologies using tools such as MATLAB, Spectre, SystemVerilog, and AMS.
  • Deep understanding of electromigration and layout-dependent effects on circuit performance, particularly in advanced FinFET technologies.
  • Extensive experience in silicon characterization and debugging.
  • Experience with fundamental analog/RF building blocks, including amplifiers, filters, oscillators, reference generation, and LDOs.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Electrical Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Familiarity with RF design concepts and metrics such as noise figure, intercept points, and line-up analysis.
  • Fundamental understanding of device physics for process selection and performance optimization.
  • Familiarity with chip-level ESD protection design and verification.
  • Familiarity with digital design, digital verification, and SystemVerilog modeling.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and integration of advanced analog/mixed-signal functions in advanced CMOS and SiGe technologies, optimizing performance and analyzing trade-offs.
  • Use Spectre and AMS flows to develop high-performance mixed-signal circuits and systems.
  • Collaborate with system architects to define block-level performance and interface requirements from system specifications and support integration into RF payloads and terminals.
  • Oversee layout, top-level integration, floorplanning, and verification of the overall design through tape-out.
  • Work with validation and product engineers to develop test plans, facilitate bring-up, optimize performance, and support reliable, high-yield production cycles.
  • Investigate and implement fundamental analog building blocks to improve circuit performance.
  • Mentor junior engineers in analog design best practices.

Benefits

  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance.
  • Basic and supplemental life insurance.
  • Paid parental leave.
  • Short- and long-term disability.
  • 401(k) with company match of up to 5%.
  • Education Support Program.
  • Stock options for regular employees working at least 20 hours per week.
  • Up to four weeks of paid time off per year, based on weekly scheduled hours.
  • Up to 14 company-paid holidays.
  • Depending on role type and job level, employees may be eligible for benefits and bonuses based on individual contributions and company results; amounts and eligibility are not guaranteed and may change or be cancelled.
