Senior Algorithm Engineer -- Autonomous Vehicles

NVIDIA•Santa Clara, CA
•$184,000 - $356,500

About The Position

Join NVIDIA’s DRIVE Road Structure, Online Mapping, and Context Fusion team to develop a comprehensive 3D world model by integrating map and perception data. The work supports autonomous vehicle navigation on complex roads and intersections in the U.S. and Europe, in close collaboration with perception and planning teams. The role develops foundational autonomous-driving systems, real-time 3D models, and enriched bird’s-eye-view models for HD-mapless driving. It also contributes fused static-obstacle and occupancy-grid solutions and occlusion masks for scenario understanding. The engineer provides technical leadership, participates hands-on in solving challenging problems, recruits and mentors engineers, and develops algorithms that work reliably across large datasets and varied conditions while meeting automotive quality and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • At least 10 years of experience, including at least 2 years in autonomous vehicles or robotics.
  • At least 2 years of technical leadership experience.
  • Strong passion for robotics and autonomous vehicles.
  • Eagerness to learn and solve impactful challenges.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, especially with global teams.
  • Strong independent and analytical software-engineering abilities.
  • Experience with embedded or automotive software development.

Nice To Haves

  • Expertise in 3D geometry, computer vision, sensor calibration, or state estimation, such as Kalman or particle filters.
  • Significant industry experience with self-driving cars.
  • Background developing real-time computer vision systems.
  • Strong API and framework design skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop foundational autonomous-driving systems by integrating perception DNNs and map data across diverse geographies.
  • Integrate sensor and external inputs to generate dynamic 3D world models for planning and navigation.
  • Design enriched bird’s-eye-view models to support HD-mapless autonomous driving in complex urban environments.
  • Construct fused static-obstacle and occupancy grids and generate occlusion masks to improve scenario understanding.
  • Guide the team in solving challenging autonomous-vehicle problems and collaborate hands-on to drive innovation.
  • Recruit, hire, and mentor engineers.
  • Develop reliable algorithms that perform across large datasets and varied conditions and adhere to automotive quality and safety standards.
