Senior AI Software Engineer

Palo Alto Networks•Office - USA - CA - Headquarters, CA
•$129,200 - $209,000

About The Position

Palo Alto Networks is hiring a Senior AI Software Engineer to develop AI solutions and applications, including scalable services and web applications built with Python (FastAPI or Django), React, and modern microservice patterns. The role implements generative AI tools, agentic workflows, retrieval-augmented generation systems, and API integrations to automate go-to-market logic across sales, support, and business applications. The engineer collaborates with lead engineers and architects on solution designs, including proxy-first AI setups and unified API endpoints for LLM integration. The position also focuses on production quality and operations: instrumenting observability for LLM inputs and outputs, latency, prompt performance, and cost; contributing to evaluation frameworks and feedback loops; and implementing guardrails for prompt injection, sensitive data such as PII, error handling, and resilience. The engineer owns user stories from implementation through CI/CD deployment and production support, and works with product managers and business stakeholders to clarify requirements and diagnose production issues. Palo Alto Networks describes its work as focused on protecting digital life and advancing cybersecurity through innovation, collaboration, execution, integrity, and inclusion. Most teams work from the office full time, with flexibility when needed. The role is not eligible for immigration sponsorship.

Requirements

  • 2–4 years of professional software engineering experience, or 1–3 years with a Master’s degree.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Python, including FastAPI or Django, for building APIs and microservices.
  • Hands-on experience building applications with modern LLMs such as OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, or Llama, and orchestration tools such as LangChain, LangGraph, or LlamaIndex.
  • Hands-on experience with modern JavaScript or TypeScript and React.
  • Good understanding of RESTful API design, relational or NoSQL databases, Git, CI/CD pipelines, and Agile practices.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and a major cloud platform such as GCP, AWS, or Azure.
  • Familiarity with AI tracing and observability tools such as LangSmith, Arize, HoneyHive, or OpenTelemetry.
  • Exposure to enterprise application lifecycles, including CRM, GTM, or Lead-to-Cash processes.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, test, and deploy scalable services and web applications using Python, React, and modern microservice patterns.
  • Implement GenAI tools, multi-step agentic workflows, RAG systems, and API integrations to automate go-to-market logic across sales, support, and business applications.
  • Collaborate with lead engineers and architects on solution designs, including proxy-first AI setups and unified API endpoints for LLM integration.
  • Instrument tracing and logging for LLM inputs and outputs, model latency, prompt performance, and cost tracking.
  • Contribute to evaluation frameworks and feedback loops to identify model drift, address bottlenecks, and maintain output quality.
  • Implement input and output guardrails to protect against prompt injection, safeguard sensitive data such as PII, and ensure reliable error handling and system resilience.
  • Own user stories end-to-end, from code implementation through CI/CD deployment and production support.
  • Partner with product managers and business stakeholders to clarify technical requirements and resolve production issue root causes.

Benefits

  • The compensation may include restricted stock units and a bonus.
  • Employee benefits are referenced in the posting, but specific benefits are not listed.
