About The Position

Connsci is seeking a Senior AI Software Developer to support a federal program by developing, deploying, and administering artificial intelligence systems and software solutions that support the agency’s mission. The role includes researching emerging AI technologies and delivering solutions such as machine learning models for data analysis and predictive analytics, natural language processing systems for document review and text analysis, and generative AI and Retrieval Augmented Generation applications. The developer will work cross-functionally and with the customer to identify business problems, design and deliver technical solutions, prepare data, develop models, integrate AI solutions with existing systems, and deploy and maintain them. The position also involves building scalable web services and APIs, using version control and CI/CD pipelines, testing and troubleshooting software, and supporting end users through training and documentation. The role requires onsite presence during an initial ramp-up period, usually 60 days, followed primarily by remote work. Occasional onsite attendance may still be required for meetings, coordination, and other government-directed work. The office is in Washington, DC, with Metro and rail access.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, information systems, or a related field; relevant experience may be considered in place of a degree.
At least 7 years of experience developing and implementing AI solutions.
At least 3 years of experience with Azure DevOps and Azure development tools.
At least 3 years of experience with machine learning libraries.
At least 3 years of experience with one or more of the following programming languages: Python, R, or Java.
Current Top Secret, DOE Q, or Public Trust High Risk Tier 4 clearance.

Nice To Haves

Strong problem-solving and analytical skills to identify user requirements and design effective solutions.
Strong understanding of mathematics, statistics, and algorithms.
Experience developing AI applications and using AI-focused programming languages such as Python or Java.
Experience with Azure Cognitive Services and Azure OpenAI.
Solid understanding of machine learning, neural networks, and natural language processing.
Experience implementing Retrieval Augmented Generation (RAG) and vector databases.
Knowledge of REST APIs for building computer vision, language analysis, knowledge mining, intelligent search, and generative AI solutions on Azure.

Responsibilities

Research and develop solutions using emerging AI technologies, including machine learning, deep learning, and natural language processing.
Develop and deliver AI software solutions tailored to the agency’s requirements, including machine learning, natural language processing, and generative AI/RAG solutions.
Work cross-functionally to identify business problems, design technical solutions, demonstrate them, and deliver business impact.
Design, develop, and maintain scalable web services and interfaces/APIs.
Version-control code and build CI/CD pipelines.
Integrate AI solutions with existing systems and applications to ensure data exchange and functionality.
Assist with data ingestion, cleansing, labeling, and transformation for model training.
Collaborate with the customer on AI model development, including data analysis, feature engineering, and algorithm selection.
Deploy AI solutions on appropriate infrastructure and provide ongoing maintenance to support stability and performance.
Test and troubleshoot software and fix bugs.
Train and support end users on AI-powered systems, including through workshops, presentations, user manuals, guides, code documentation, specifications, test plans, and procedures.
Participate in strategic planning to identify opportunities to use AI to improve operations and achieve mission objectives.
Maintain software solution development records, notes, sketches, drawings, and related materials for review.
Develop standard operating procedures, knowledge base articles, quick reference guides, technical bulletins, and other documents supporting the IT Directorate.
