Senior AI Engineer, Banking Technology
About The Position
Citi’s Banking Technology organization is seeking a hands-on Senior AI Engineer to design, build, and deploy AI solutions for Investment, Corporate, and Commercial Banking. The role centers on implementing scalable agentic AI frameworks and generative AI solutions in small, agile squads, using an AI-first mindset, rapid prototyping, MVP-driven development, and iterative delivery of production-grade capabilities. The engineer will develop and integrate agentic systems across model providers and platforms, build full-stack applications incorporating LLM-driven workflows, and define evaluations and feedback loops to improve system performance. The role also involves researching emerging AI technologies, working hands-on with cross-functional teams, mentoring junior engineers, and ensuring solutions meet banking and financial services requirements and business outcomes.
Requirements
- 6–10 years of progressive software engineering experience with a strong hands-on coding background.
- At least 2 years focused on AI software development, LLM-based solutions, agentic systems, and/or machine learning.
- Demonstrated experience delivering enterprise-scale AI capabilities into production.
- Strong proficiency in Python and/or Java (Spring Boot); working knowledge of JavaScript/TypeScript, Angular, and Node.js.
- Solid understanding of AI concepts including knowledge representation, planning, and multi-agent systems.
- Hands-on experience with LLMs, RAG, prompt engineering, MCPs, and agent frameworks such as Google ADK.
- Practical experience with TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn, NumPy, and Pandas.
- Strong grounding in Git, CI/CD, testing, code reviews, agile delivery, application resiliency, and security.
- Experience designing API-first, microservices-based, and event-driven architectures, including data engineering patterns for AI systems.
- Hands-on experience with Docker, Kubernetes, and OpenShift.
- Strong analytical and communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
- Solid understanding of banking or financial services and regulated environments.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, AI, Robotics, or a related quantitative discipline.

Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and deploy scalable agentic AI frameworks and generative AI solutions for critical business use cases, ensuring robustness, performance, security, and reliability.
- Develop and integrate agentic AI systems using multiple model providers and platforms, such as OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google APIs.
- Build full-stack applications integrating LLM-driven workflows and AI coding tools.
- Drive MVP-first development, rapid iteration, continuous experimentation, and improvement.
- Define and implement metrics, evaluation strategies, and feedback loops to improve AI system performance and behavior.
- Research, prototype, and integrate advances in agent-based, autonomous, and generative AI technologies.
- Contribute hands-on within cross-functional teams and provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers.
- Align AI solutions with banking and financial services requirements, constraints, and business outcomes.
