Senior AI Automation Engineer

Later•Vancouver, BC
•$125,000 - $190,000

About The Position

Later is hiring an AI Automation Engineer to embed across teams—including Operations, Finance, Marketing, and Customer Success—and replace manual, repetitive work with durable AI-powered tools. The role combines engineering, internal consulting, and coaching: building automations that address immediate business needs while helping non-technical colleagues develop the skills to build solutions themselves. The engineer will work across Later Influence, Later Social, and Later Creator, with exposure to senior leadership and broad insight into company operations. The position focuses on discovering high-impact automation opportunities, translating ambiguous business problems into technical solutions, and rapidly shipping prototypes for stakeholder validation. It involves connecting AI tools and techniques—including LLMs, agents, RAG, and prompt design—with existing systems, then strengthening successful prototypes with reliability, observability, error handling, monitoring, documentation, and reusable design. The engineer will also coach colleagues, build shared components and templates, and partner with Engineering and IT on platform decisions. Success includes delivering production automations with documented business impact across multiple teams, increasing non-technical colleagues’ ability to build automations, creating reusable resources, and helping shape Later’s automation roadmap.

Requirements

  • Track record of building and shipping automations, internal tools, or AI-powered workflows that delivered measurable business impact.
  • Strong fluency with modern AI tooling, including LLMs, agents, RAG, and prompt design.
  • Comfort connecting APIs, scripts, and no-code or low-code platforms.
  • Business-first approach, beginning with the problem and user rather than the technology.
  • Ability to clarify non-technical partners’ problem definitions through effective questions.
  • Resourcefulness and bias to action, with the ability to ship a working first version quickly and iterate.
  • Judgment to distinguish one-off solutions from those that need to scale across the organization.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including explaining technical tradeoffs to non-technical audiences.
  • Comfort with data, including pulling, cleaning, and reasoning about it.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in an internal-tools, RevOps, BizOps, or applied AI function.
  • Background supporting or training non-technical builders, such as citizen developers or operations teams using their own tooling.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with non-technical stakeholders across Operations, Finance, Marketing, Customer Success, and other functions to understand workflows.
  • Identify high-impact automation opportunities and turn ambiguous problems into clear technical solutions.
  • Build automations and internal tools using AI-native platforms, scripts, APIs, and other appropriate technologies.
  • Ship working first versions quickly so stakeholders can validate value before larger investment.
  • Connect LLMs, agents, RAG patterns, and prompt design with existing systems to deliver workflow outcomes.
  • Harden successful prototypes with reliability, observability, error handling, and reusability for production use.
  • Determine whether solutions should remain one-off tools or be developed into organization-wide capabilities.
  • Build monitoring and documentation so automations can run unattended and recover gracefully from failures.
  • Coach non-technical colleagues building automations by reviewing work, removing blockers, and developing their skills.
  • Run enablement activities such as working sessions, office hours, and shared documentation.
  • Explain technical tradeoffs to non-technical audiences and help colleagues learn to build solutions independently.
  • Identify cross-team patterns and create shared components, templates, and frameworks.
  • Develop reusable prompt libraries, integration patterns, and automation templates.
  • Partner with Engineering and IT on platform decisions that make automation capabilities durable.
  • Document business impact of production automations, such as hours saved, reduced error rates, or shorter cycle times.
  • Contribute to Later’s automation roadmap by identifying future opportunities and platform investment needs.
