About The Position

Cenovus is seeking an experienced Senior Advisor, Regulatory Approvals to join their Calgary-based Regulatory team. This group plays an essential role in preparing high-quality applications to secure timely approvals that enable responsible development and support Cenovus’s corporate strategy across their Western Canadian asset base. In this role, you will work closely with the Regulatory Approvals Specialist to execute the approvals strategy for obtaining approvals for the Lloydminster Thermal, Alberta/Saskatchewan Conventional Heavy Oil (LTCHO), and Oil Sands assets as required. This includes working with project teams and other enabling functions to prepare, submit, and steward regulatory applications. The role will also require building collaborative relationships with project teams, engaging with external regulators on project-specific requirements, and supporting the Regulatory Approvals Specialist in proactively managing portfolio-level regulatory approvals risks.

Requirements

Legally authorized to work in Canada
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental sciences, or related discipline.
10+ years of demonstrated experience preparing regulatory applications for oil and gas development.
Experience with Saskatchewan oil and gas project applications, and Alberta oil and gas project and oil sands applications is preferred.
Direct experience engaging with provincial regulators.
Experience with federal regulators would be an asset.
Track record of working with cross‑functional stakeholders to develop regulatory applications and receive regulatory approvals.
Proven ability to build strong working relationships and collaborate effectively as part of a high‑performing, fast‑paced regulatory team.
Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage concurrent deliverables while maintaining a high level of quality and attention to detail.

Responsibilities

Lead regulatory applications & approvals: Work with project teams to prepare, coordinate, and submit regulatory applications. This includes applications for new development, sustaining/expansion activities, disposal/re‑injection, re-development/re-drill programs, subsurface changes, facility modifications, etc.
Ensure applications align with regulatory expectations and corporate requirements, drawing on previous applications and regulatory experience.
Work with the Regulatory Approvals Specialist to proactively identify and mitigate risks to approval timelines.
Build strong relationships: Build and maintain productive, solution-oriented relationships and represent Cenovus in meetings with key regulators regarding project applications.
Collaborate across teams: Work closely with project teams and other enabling functions to ensure project teams understand regulatory timelines and application requirements.
Support internal strategy planning by ensuring project application inputs are clearly defined, the regulatory schedule is understood, and critical path items and risks and opportunities are identified.
