About The Position

Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario, connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe by operating GO Transit, UP Express, and the PRESTO fare payment system, and building new rapid transit infrastructure. This Senior Advisor, Commercial Management role is an in-office position (5 days per week) at the 20 Bay St. location, emphasizing in-person collaboration, relationship building, and hands-on partnership. The team offers flexibility in start and end times while maintaining core business hours. The Commercial Management team within CPG Rapid Transit is seeking a Senior Advisor to join a small, high-performing team. This role supports the Executive Vice President (EVP), Commercial – Rapid Transit, and the Capital Leadership Team. The Senior Advisor will provide strategic advice and recommendations on policy, program, and issues management related to the Rapid Transit program, including Light Rail Transit and subway expansion projects. Key responsibilities include coordinating executive-level presentations, reports, and communications, engaging across CPG divisions to advance priorities, and supporting divisional governance and operations. The role also involves leading special projects and providing oversight and decision support on commercial management matters, with coordination across critical projects like the Ontario Line and the Yonge North Subway Extension.

Requirements

  • Completion of a degree in Public Policy, Management, Political Science, Urban Planning or related field or a combination of education, training and experience deemed equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience, ideally in the public sector, developing strategic materials, reports, and presentations; managing special projects and complex, sensitive issues; and ensuring the timely flow of information and effective stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills to manage competing priorities, navigate ambiguity, and drive coordinated project delivery.
  • Strong influencing and negotiating skills, supported by political acumen, to engage diverse stakeholders and drive successful outcomes.
  • Excellent analytical skills to assess business needs, identify and evaluate risks and impacts on company reputation, and develop recommendations for corrective action.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills (oral, written, and presentation) to translate analytical findings into clear reports and presentations.
  • Proficiency in computer applications, including MS Office (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Visio.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience within an engineering or transit infrastructure environment would be an asset.
  • Strong critical thinking skills, with an aptitude for governance and process, including experience developing commercial templates, processes, and strategies, are an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Works collaboratively with members of the Commercial Leadership Team and their staff on policy, projects, and contentious or emerging issues; provides subject matter expertise and advice to assist with planning to ensure successful outcomes.
  • Identifies emerging issues and evaluates the urgency of demands; mediates and resolves conflicts associated with ongoing work and competing project priorities.
  • Applies a project management lens to assess commercial issues, evaluate options, and manage programs and special projects within established timelines.
  • Coordinates and attends management meetings to provide secretariat support, including confirming agendas, reviewing materials, and following up on action items.
  • Develops high-quality executive reports, presentations, commercial strategies and plans, in collaboration with business units across the Commercial Leadership Team. This includes developing and reviewing materials prior to dissemination to ensure quality, consistency, and flow of information.
  • Coordinates and develops materials on behalf of the Commercial Leadership Team for a variety of senior governance meetings (e.g., Board of Directors/Executive Committees).
  • Supports the EVP, Commercial – Rapid Transit in developing and executing strategic planning activities, including ensuring alignment with enterprise-level business plans.
  • Provides advice and consultation to the Commercial Leadership Team on governance matters, ensuring alignment with internal policy requirements.
  • Collaborates with cross-functional teams and key stakeholders to coordinate information requests, develop progress updates, and manage the distribution of information.
  • Excels in stakeholder management to develop and maintain a strong network with internal and external partners to coordinate projects, set priorities, and share best practices.
