About The Position

The Senior Advanced Hardware Engineer will design, develop, validate, and sustain Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS) electronics for Honeywell Aerospace’s Electronic Solutions organization. The role supports aircraft safety, connectivity, and avionics capabilities by delivering robust hardware for next-generation aerospace products. The engineer leads complex design activities, mentors junior engineers, collaborates across multidisciplinary teams, and ensures hardware meets safety, reliability, certification, and performance requirements for globally deployed CNS systems. This role is based onsite in Olathe, Kansas. Relocation is offered. The position works with systems, project, and program teams throughout requirements definition, design, integration, verification, production, and sustainment. It also supports configuration and obsolescence management, engineering changes, regulatory compliance, and continuous improvement. The role may interface with customers, suppliers, and certification authorities as needed. Candidates must be a U.S. Person—defined as a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or someone with protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status—or have the ability to obtain an export authorization.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
  • At least 6 years of professional experience in hardware design, preferably in aerospace or other safety-critical applications.
  • Demonstrated expertise in analog/digital circuit design, schematic capture, simulation, and board-level debugging.
  • Experience with design tools such as Mentor/Siemens, Altium, OrCAD, SPICE, or MATLAB.
  • Strong knowledge of EMI/EMC principles, DO-160 environmental qualification, and DO-254 considerations.
  • Must be a U.S. Person as defined in the posting, or have the ability to obtain an export authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in engineering or equivalent advanced training.
  • Experience with avionics CNS technologies such as COM radios, NAV receivers, transponders, ADS-B, DME, or radar systems.
  • Familiarity with RF test equipment, automation scripting, or FPGA-based hardware.
  • Prior experience in technical leadership, mentoring, or project-engineering collaboration.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present technical content to diverse audiences.
  • Technical problem-solving ability and rigorous analytical thinking.
  • A mindset focused on hardware reliability, robustness, and compliance.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines and sites.
  • Ownership, accountability, and proactive leadership.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the architecture, design, and analysis of digital, analog, mixed-signal, RF, and power-electronics circuits for CNS avionics.
  • Develop hardware specifications, schematics, bills of materials, simulation models, and interface definitions.
  • Guide PCB layout, component selection, EMI/EMC compliance, manufacturability, environmental robustness, and certification readiness.
  • Conduct detailed design reviews and drive issue resolution across teams.
  • Integrate hardware with embedded software, FPGA logic, RF front ends, and system-level avionics architectures.
  • Plan and execute verification and validation, including functional testing, environmental stress testing, HALT/HASS, DO-160 qualification, and certification support.
  • Debug complex system interactions and guide root-cause analysis for field returns, production issues, and test anomalies.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineering, Project Engineering, and Program Management across the product lifecycle.
  • Support configuration management, engineering changes, obsolescence management, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with aerospace regulatory requirements, safety standards, and applicable processes.
  • Collaborate with Electrical, RF, Mechanical, Test, and Manufacturing Engineering teams to deliver CNS hardware.
  • Contribute to cross-site design reviews, knowledge-sharing forums, and technical talks.
  • Interface with customers, suppliers, and certification authorities as needed.
