About The Position

As a Senior Advanced Hardware Engineer in Honeywell Aerospace’s Electronic Solutions organization, you will design, develop, validate, and sustain Communication, Navigation, and Surveillance (CNS) electronics. The role supports aircraft safety, connectivity, and avionics capabilities by delivering robust hardware for next-generation aerospace products. You will lead complex design activities, mentor junior engineers, collaborate across multidisciplinary teams, and ensure hardware meets safety, reliability, certification, and performance requirements for CNS systems deployed globally. The position is onsite in Olathe, Kansas; relocation is offered. You will lead hardware architecture, circuit design, integration, verification, and product lifecycle activities. You will collaborate with systems, project, and program teams from requirements definition through production and sustainment, and work with engineering, test, and manufacturing disciplines to deliver high-quality CNS hardware. The role also includes technical leadership, mentoring, customer and supplier interaction as needed, and support for certification and regulatory compliance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as science, technology, engineering, or mathematics.
  • At least 6 years of professional experience in hardware design, preferably in aerospace or other safety-critical applications.
  • Demonstrated expertise in analog/digital circuit design, schematic capture, simulation, and board-level debugging.
  • Experience with design tools such as Mentor/Siemens, Altium, OrCAD, SPICE, or MATLAB.
  • Strong knowledge of EMI/EMC principles, DO-160 environmental qualification, and DO-254 considerations.
  • Must be a U.S. Person, defined as a U.S. citizen, U.S. permanent resident, or someone with protected status in the U.S. under asylum or refugee status, or have the ability to obtain export authorization.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in engineering or equivalent advanced training.
  • Experience with avionics CNS technologies such as COM radios, NAV receivers, transponders, ADS-B, DME, or radar systems.
  • Familiarity with RF test equipment, automation scripting, or FPGA-based hardware.
  • Prior experience in technical leadership, mentoring, or project-engineering collaboration.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to present technical content to diverse audiences.
  • Technical problem-solving ability and rigorous analytical thinking.
  • A mindset focused on hardware reliability, robustness, and compliance.
  • Ability to collaborate across disciplines and sites.
  • Ownership, accountability, and proactive leadership.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead architecture, design, and analysis of digital, analog, mixed-signal, RF, and power-electronics circuits used in CNS avionics.
  • Develop hardware specifications, schematics, bills of materials, simulation models, and interface definitions.
  • Guide PCB layout, component selection, EMI/EMC compliance considerations, manufacturability, environmental robustness, and certification readiness.
  • Conduct detailed design reviews and drive issue resolution across teams.
  • Integrate hardware with embedded software, FPGA logic, RF front-ends, and system-level avionics architectures.
  • Plan and execute verification and validation, including functional testing, environmental stress, HALT/HASS, DO-160 qualification, and certification support.
  • Debug complex system interactions and guide root-cause analysis of field returns, production issues, and test anomalies.
  • Collaborate with Systems Engineering, Project Engineering, and Program Management through requirements definition, design, integration, verification, production, and sustainment.
  • Support configuration management, engineering changes, obsolescence management, and continuous improvement.
  • Ensure compliance with aerospace regulatory requirements, safety standards, and applicable processes.
  • Work with Electrical, RF, Mechanical, and Test Engineering and Manufacturing to deliver CNS hardware.
  • Contribute to cross-site design reviews, knowledge-sharing forums, and technical talks.
