About The Position

This position is part of an approved Career Development Plan (CDP) and offers career progression opportunities and salary incentives, as funding permits, based on performance, qualifications, and experience. The Senior Accounting Technician will process and track purchase requisitions in the accounting software system (Workday), ensure invoices are paid on time, and research any discrepancies with vendors and/or staff. Responsibilities include reconciling purchase card statements, processing monthly Inter-departmental Transfers (IDT) and annual Cross Department Charges (CDC) billings, assigning work orders, posting purchases of materials and supplies, closing work orders, and researching customer inquiries through an automated work order application. The role also involves assisting division staff with purchasing, accounting, and timekeeping policies and procedures, scheduling work with county contractors, greeting and directing visitors, answering calls, and serving as a backup timekeeper for the division and department. Performs other work as required.

Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in accounting, business administration or a related field
  • Two years of experience in technical level accounting or bookkeeping practices and procedures
  • Knowledge of general accounting, bookkeeping principles and timekeeping procedures.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations.
  • Attention to detail and analytical skills to verify financial accounts, records and reports.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced team environment and to apply self-driven organizational and time management skills to meet critical deadlines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and the use of financial spreadsheets and databases.
  • Current valid driver’s license and good driving record required.
  • Based on the Virginia DMV point system, records must not reflect a total of six or more demerit points within the twenty-four months preceding the anticipated hire date, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding thirty-six months.
  • Out of state records must be obtained by applicant and presented at time of interview.
  • Records must reflect at least three years of history and be dated within thirty days of interview date.
  • Pre-employment drug testing, FBI criminal background check, and education/degree verification required.

Nice To Haves

  • Five years of experience in technical level accounting or bookkeeping practices and procedures
  • Five years of customer service experience preferred
  • Interpersonal skills, positive attitude and the ability to work well in group settings and with both internal and external customers.

Responsibilities
