About The Position

The Wake County Finance Department is seeking a highly motivated, positive and upbeat individual to join our Revenue team as a Senior Accounting Technician. The team monitors funds collected by 13 departments at over 30 sites located across Wake County to ensure deposits are being made per Wake County policy and are being recorded in the financial system accurately and timely. The Senior Accounting Technician will work with the Accounting Supervisor, two Accountants, and the Revenue Manager to perform cash depositing and cash posting as well as various governmental financial transactions and reconciliations. This is an on-site only position.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Three years of job-related experience
  • Solid computer skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Excel (managing, sorting, filtering and summarizing data)
  • Self-motivated professional with excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach
  • Ability to build and maintain positive, productive relationships with coworkers, peers and internal and external customers
  • Ability to convey information clearly and concisely to coworkers, peers, internal and external customers
  • Ability to balances daily, weekly and monthly tasks with accuracy and timeliness
  • Detail-oriented with the ability to identify, research and resolve discrepancies

Nice To Haves

  • Associate’s degree in Accounting, Business Administration or related field
  • One year of experience in accounting or clerical activities
  • Experience using financial software such as Workday

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and process daily deposits
  • Record funds to appropriate revenue sources in the financial system
  • Monitor, approve and process cash receipts from County departments
  • Communicate with County departments to ensure timely, accurate cash receipt posting in the financial system in accordance with guidelines
  • Process credit card payments and record funds to appropriate revenue sources in financial system
  • Perform positive pay issuances via PNC online banking portal
  • Research, post and issue certified notifications for NSF checks; charge department budgets and prepare documentation for District Attorney submission (Worthless Check Program)
  • Research and post bank account adjustments, prepare and maintain pertinent files
  • Serve as backup support for front desk coverage
  • Work with County staff to address business process changes needed for cash handling processes and internal controls
