About The Position

The Senior Accounting Specialist is responsible for performing the general accounting functions of the Bank, including the preparation of accounting and regulatory reports. This role requires interaction with Bank management, employees, and internal/external auditors. The position provides backup for other department functions and serves as backup to the Controller for certain duties. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, works effectively in a team and independently, and maintains a high degree of accuracy with minimal errors. Proficiency in spreadsheet and word processing programs, as well as various financial systems, is necessary.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience (in Accounting or Finance is preferred)
  • 2-4 years of accounting or industry experience, preferably in banking
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word
  • Must be able to work independently and meet deadlines with minimal guidance
  • Must be able to handle sensitive and confidential data
  • Excellent problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail is critical

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for general ledger reconciliations and reconcilement controls as described in Accounting & Control Policy.
  • Prepares monthly financial statements and detailed financial package for Executive Board of Directors.
  • Responsible for general ledger, investment and fixed assets systems and records.
  • Responsible for month-end GL accruals and adjustments.
  • Prepares monthly tax accrual calculations for review. Assists with preparation of detailed schedules for tax returns.
  • Reviews daily cash position worksheets and determines daily cash needs of the Bank.
  • Processes incoming and outgoing wires.
  • Responsible for client prepared schedules for external auditors and preparation of annual audited financial report.
  • Provides materials for internal auditors as requested.
  • Assists with implementation of new procedures as needed, to comply with changes in accounting standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Assists Controller in preparation of FDIC Call Report, CECL and other regulatory reports.
  • May provide backup assistance to the duties of the Controller.
  • Provides backup and assistance for other accounting positions.
  • Performs security administration functions for GL, Investments and Fixed Assets programs.
  • Perform similar duties as requested or required by supervisor.
