About The Position

Tradewind Aviation is seeking a Senior Accounting Manager to join their dynamic Finance team in their Middlebury, Connecticut Corporate office. This is a critical role responsible for leading the monthly financial close, preparing financial statements, managing key accounting areas such as intercompany accounts, inventory, and fixed assets, and performing ad hoc analysis. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles, drive a strong control environment, and partner with the Controller. This individual should possess excellent attention to detail, the ability to work independently, solve problems, and be comfortable leading and interacting with the team. This role will regularly interact with the Controller, head of FP & A, and CFO to discuss financials, systems, and the internal control environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with a strong understanding of US GAAP/Financial Accounting.
  • 7+ years of progressive Accounting experience, preferably with some managerial experience.
  • Experience creating, implementing, managing, and monitoring effective internal controls.
  • Passionate about leading change and solving problems.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong managerial presence that reflects a participative, proactive, and hands-on operating style.
  • Ability to adhere to tight deadlines and manage priorities.
  • ERP experience; demonstrated ability to learn a new system.
  • Highly proficient in Microsoft Excel.
  • Must be self-driven, detail-oriented, and possess strong organizational skills including time-management and prioritization.
  • Must possess strong communication skills to interact with leadership and various departments.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in public accounting is a plus.
  • ERP system implementations experience a plus.
  • Current or aspiring CMA or CPA is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the monthly financial close process, ensuring accurate, complete, and GAAP-compliant financial statements, including proper recording of costs, review of journal entries, account balance reconciliations, and report preparation.
  • Implement an accrual system for the close process.
  • Ensure timely reporting of all monthly financial statements with assistance from the finance team.
  • Prepare year-over-year account analysis.
  • Manage inventory and fixed asset accounting, including analyzing inventory balances, investigating variances, creating analysis, and monitoring inventory for excess and obsolescence.
  • Lead the annual physical inventory.
  • Document and access process improvements.
  • Prepare monthly intercompany reconciliations and resolve variances.
  • Manage accounting for non-core operating entities and financial statement preparation.
  • Create a strong control environment by collaborating with finance and non-finance personnel to ensure processes align with company policy.
  • Enhance overall department internal controls through process understanding, control identification, and solution implementation.
  • Review monthly account reconciliations and verify balances are consistent with GAAP.
  • Collaborate with the Controller to establish priorities and identify improvement opportunities.
  • Coordinate with external auditors for efficient financial data reviews, audit process design, and development of policy and procedure repositories.
  • Complete special projects and ad hoc analysis as requested.
  • Manage AP vendor approvals through Ramp, mitigating fraud risk to the AP workflow and ensuring proper tax setup.
  • Review controls, including AP/AR oversight and key controls for routine reconciliations.
  • Support cash management.
  • Partner with FP & A on budget and forecast matters.
