About The Position

Cook Inlet Region, Inc (CIRI) is seeking a talented Senior Manager, Accounting to join their accounting team. This position is based in Anchorage, AK but offers a fully remote schedule for candidates who live outside of Alaska. Remote employees may be required to travel to the corporate office on a regular schedule. CIRI is one of 12 land-based Alaska Native regional corporations created pursuant to the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA). The Senior Manager, Accounting is responsible for ensuring accurate internal and external financial reporting from subsidiaries and investments in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) across multiple industry segments. This role will manage accounting activities, implement accounting policies, procedures and controls in a shared service environment with a focus on customer service and meeting operational needs of CIRI’s industry segments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or business-related field
  • Six years of accounting experience
  • Two years’ supervisory experience
  • Ability to pass a background screening
  • Thorough knowledge of, and ability to apply, Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and reporting standards, Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR), and Cost Accounting Standards (CAS).
  • Thorough knowledge of the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act Section 7(i)
  • Knowledge of general accounting operations, including general ledger management, account reconciliations, financial reporting, internal controls, regulatory compliance and accounting process administration.
  • Strong sense of organization.
  • Ability to develop comprehensive work plans for short, mid-range and long-term projects such as financial analysis for operating departments and accounting and internal control considerations. Ability to manage such projects and to perform many of the related project tasks.
  • Ability to prepare complex consolidated financial statements.
  • Ability to prepare and analyze operating, capital and cash flow proformas and budgets.
  • Financial and audit skills commensurate with a corporation the size and functional orientation of CIRI.
  • Thorough understanding of an enterprise resource planning system and corresponding general ledger applicability (CostPoint, Workday, and Adaptive products preferred)
  • Strong organizational, follow-up, and detail-oriented skills, with the ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports.
  • Ability to make decisions, solve problems and exercise good judgment
  • Ability to work under pressure and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to effectively supervise and develop staff through work planning, performance management, coaching, corrective action and development.

  • Sufficient fine motor skills for use of computers, calculators with an ability to withstand repetitive key-boarding for extended periods of time
  • Visual and communication abilities adequate to perform the essential functions of the job.
  • Ability to kneel, bend and twist at the waist on an occasional basis
  • Ability to reach below shoulder height with regular frequency (desk position) and at or above shoulder height on occasion
  • Ability to push, pull, carry and lift objects weighing up to 10 pounds on an occasional basis

Responsibilities

  • Manage the monthly financial close process, including ensuring all costs incurred are properly recorded, review journal entries, account balance reconciliation and report preparation.
  • Oversee the integration of accounting activities of the various divisions and subsidiaries into CIRI’s accounting systems, ensure accurate financial reporting and adherence with GAAP, FAR, and CAS.
  • Manage complex monthly consolidating financial statements across multiple industries for CIRI, CST and their subsidiaries.
  • Act as the subject-matter-expert responsible for managing and maintaining the general ledger system and all related financial reporting and budgeting tools and software.
  • Participate in the ongoing development and establishment of accounting policies and procedures and operational strategies with a focus on efficient, effective, and continuous improvement.
  • Oversee the onboarding of newly acquired entities into the financial reporting and control structure.
  • Provide implementation and post-implementation leadership for accounting software, ensuring CIRI financial reporting requirements are met. Provide best practices support to all users of the tool organization wide.
  • Lead the annual budget compilation, work closely with all divisions and subsidiaries including written analysis.
  • Lead the annual financial audit process of CIRI, CST and their subsidiaries. Review schedules and work papers, compile data for audited financial statements, footnotes and management discussion and analysis.
  • Provide financial analysis and research support to operating and administrative departments.
  • Assist in research, analysis and reporting changes in GAAP, FAR, and CAS to the accounting management team.
  • Oversee the Alaska Native Claims Settlement Act (ANCSA) Section 7(i) report accounting requirements to ensure appropriate accounting, reporting and audit issuance.
  • Guide the professional development of the department’s staff.
  • Complete special projects and other duties as assigned and appropriate.
