About The Position

Sunwealth offices are located in Cambridge’s Porter Square and New York City’s Financial District. We work on a hybrid schedule, ideally three (3) days per week in the Cambridge office. The Senior Accountant will play a key role on a small, collaborative team and support the Manager of Accounting in managing the financial and accounting operations of the company. This individual will partner closely with stakeholders across the organization, bringing strong analytical skills, curiosity, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.
  • Four (4) to seven (7) years of progressive accounting experience, preferably within renewable energy, project accounting, construction, real estate, or similarly complex operational environments.
  • Proficiency with accounting systems, including Sage Intacct (preferred) or other ERP platforms.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and strong proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite.
  • Experience supporting month-end close processes, financial reporting, account reconciliations, and audit activities.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, and consistently meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience partnering effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve organizational objectives and improve business processes.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA designation or progress toward CPA certification is preferred but not required.
  • Interest in renewable energy, sustainability, or impact investing is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Own assigned aspects of the monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, including journal entries, account reconciliations, supporting schedules, and variance analysis.
  • Prepare and analyze balance sheet reconciliations and income statement fluctuations, identifying trends, investigating discrepancies, and communicating findings effectively.
  • Assist in the preparation of internal and external financial reporting requirements, including monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and prepare supporting documentation and analyses required during annual audits.
  • Partner with Project Managers and other business stakeholders to review contract documentation, change orders, billing matters, and the accounting implications of operational decisions.
  • Serve as a trusted accounting resource to cross-functional teams by clearly communicating financial information to both finance and non-finance audiences.
  • Oversee the accounts payable process to ensure timely and accurate processing of invoices and payments while maintaining strong internal controls.
  • Prepare, review, and facilitate invoice payments related to construction projects, ensuring all required approvals and supporting documentation are obtained.
  • Reconcile bank accounts and investigate unusual or unreconciled items to ensure completeness and accuracy of financial records.
  • Prepare state and local property tax filings, business tax returns, and related payments.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline processes, strengthen internal controls, and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of accounting operations.
  • Recommend and implement approved improvements to billing, payment, and reporting processes.
  • Perform special projects, research assignments, and ad hoc analyses to support business initiatives and strategic decision-making.
