About The Position

The Senior Accountant role involves a range of daily, weekly, monthly, and annual responsibilities focused on financial statement preparation, reconciliation, and audit support. This position requires a strong understanding of accrual-based accounting, excellent organizational skills, and the ability to meet strict reporting deadlines. The accountant will manage financial tasks for assigned associations, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting principles and contractual obligations.

Requirements

  • 1 to 3 years work experience in a related field.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting.
  • Knowledge of accrual-based accounting.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Commitment to meeting reporting deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and Word).

Responsibilities

  • Respond to requests from field staff and/or Board Members within 24 hours, or inform requester if unable to meet the deadline.
  • Respond to requests from corporate staff in a timely manner.
  • Monitor material transactions that may affect cash availability.
  • Assess and prioritize tasks to ensure timely completion of deliverables.
  • Clear review notes from prior accounting periods.
  • Perform administrative functions including record keeping and filing.
  • Approve weekly payables for assigned Associations with cash flow issues.
  • Prepare bank transfers for reserve funding and special assessments.
  • Reconcile bank accounts for assigned associations.
  • Complete tasks on the Monthly Checklist for Financial Statement Preparation.
  • Prepare monthly Financial Packages for assigned associations by contractual deadlines, including Balance Sheet, Income Statement, Bank Reconciliations, Delinquency/Prepaid Reports, Accounts Payable Detail, and Check Register.
  • Reconcile each line item on the Balance Sheet and prepare supporting schedules.
  • Reconcile reserve fund balances to restricted, reserve cash balances if the association passed its budget with full/partial reserves.
  • Reconcile special assessment fund balances to restricted, special assessment cash balances.
  • Prepare a supporting schedule detailing funded reserve line items if the Association approved “pooled reserves.”
  • Analyze financial statements to ensure they are presented on an accrual basis and appear properly stated, using month-by-month reports to assess trends.
  • For developer-controlled associations: track important dates and meetings, invoice developer for monthly deficit during the Guarantee Period, coordinate with AR Supervisor to move in developer into unsold units after Guarantee Period, and invoice developer for assessments due on their units after Guarantee Period.
  • Prepare the annual Budget by filling in the Budget Worksheet with month-to-month actual balances and filling in the Budget reserve schedule.
  • Manage the Financial Audit process: request required information from the auditor, follow up to ensure timely progress, review the audit report draft for accuracy, tie balances in Notes to Financial Statements, obtain and review proposed audit journal entries, follow up on discrepancies, communicate material post-year-end events to the association, and ensure timely issuance of the final audit report.
  • Book audit entries affecting the fund balance upon receiving the final audit report.
  • Manage the Tax Return process: ensure an extension is filed if the audit report is not final by March 15th, provide necessary financial information to the tax accountant, and ensure the tax return is filed by the due date (September 15th) if an extension is filed.
