About The Position

Gillespie-Munro Inc. (GMI) is looking for an experienced Senior Accountant to join our growing team in Montréal, reporting directly to the President. This position will take ownership of key accounting functions, including general ledger management, account reconciliations, financial reporting, payroll and tax compliance, cash flow monitoring, internal controls, audit preparation, and process improvement. Requirements

  • Fluency in both French and English is required, including reading and writing.
  • Post-secondary education in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a related field.
  • CPA designation or actively enrolled in the CPA program is required.
  • Previous experience in senior accounting or full-cycle accounting.
  • Strong knowledge of general ledger management, reconciliations, payroll, AP/AR, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with payroll and tax compliance requirements.
  • Strong understanding of accounting principles and ASPE.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to manage a high volume of work and meet deadlines.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of responsibilities.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and Outlook.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience reviewing, mentoring, or providing guidance to junior accounting staff is an asset.
  • Experience with QuickBooks and/or NetSuite is an asset.
  • Experience in transportation, logistics, freight forwarding, or a related industry is an asset.
  • Demonstrated interest in career growth and developing toward a Controller role.

Responsibilities

  • Manage the general ledger and day-to-day accounting activities.
  • Complete and review monthly account reconciliations and month-end procedures.
  • Prepare accurate financial reports and statements for management.
  • Manage accounts payable and accounts receivable processes.
  • Process and review payroll and ensure payroll-related requirements are completed accurately and on time.
  • Ensure tax filings, government remittances, source deductions, and other compliance requirements are completed accurately and within deadlines.
  • Monitor cash flow and communicate significant variances or concerns to management.
  • Maintain accurate accounting records and appropriate audit trails.
  • Perform quality control reviews of accounting entries, reconciliations, and supporting documentation.
  • Review the work of junior accounting staff or clerks and provide feedback, guidance, and support.
  • Assist with budgets, forecasts, and financial analysis.
  • Prepare documentation and schedules for year-end audits and external reviews.
  • Maintain and support internal controls and ASPE compliance.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvements, efficiencies, and improved accuracy.
  • Assist with implementing improved accounting procedures and best practices.
  • Work closely with management and other departments to ensure accurate and timely financial information.
  • Support management with financial information and analysis for business decision-making.
  • Take on increasing financial and leadership responsibilities as you progress toward a Controller-level position.
  • Perform other accounting and finance-related duties as required.
