About The Position

The Senior Accountant, working closely with the Accounting Operations team, is responsible for preparing complex general ledger account reconciliations and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting. This role supports external audits for the American Bankers Association and its affiliated entities, serving as a key liaison with external auditors on audit and tax engagements, including federal and state tax filings for ABA and its subsidiaries. The Senior Accountant also prepares financial statements for ABA's for-profit subsidiaries, partnering with senior management to ensure accurate reporting and compliance. Additionally, this position provides ongoing support for external audits across ABA and affiliated entities and assists with various accounting, reporting, and compliance initiatives as needed.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
6-8 years of experience required with 3-5 years of experience in accounting; 2+ years of public accounting experience preferred.
Knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting required.
Knowledge of tax laws and regulations.
Advanced proficiency in MS Excel, Word, and Adobe Acrobat required.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Able to multi-task and manage time wisely.
Able to think strategically.
Able to express complex issues logically and concisely.

Nice To Haves

CPA preferred.
Knowledge of Workday and Adaptive preferred.

Responsibilities

Prepare supporting documentation for ABA and its subsidiaries' income tax filings (Federal Form 990, 990T, 1065 and 1120 and various state forms) and upload to the auditor’s portal.
Prepare necessary forms for excise tax and political expenditure filings.
Schedule yearly meetings with tax counsel to understand all appropriate tax and related regulatory changes.
Prepare ABA and its subsidiaries' (non-profit) quarterly UBIT filings.
Prepare the estimated tax payments for ABA Card Solutions and fTLD (for-profit), including foreign withholding.
Prepare the annual financial statement for ABA Retiree Medical Plans.
Prepare the monthly and annual financial statements for ABA Card.
Prepare supporting schedules and analysis supporting BankPac and other audits.
Review monthly transactions in assigned accounts.
Create and enter journal entries (ad hoc bank transactions) as required.
Other duties as assigned by business need.
