About The Position

The Senior Accountant researches, interprets, and applies U.S. GAAP accounting guidance to complex transactions and business activities within a financial services environment. This role prepares and reviews technical accounting memorandums, supports the implementation and ongoing compliance of key accounting standards, and assists with SEC filings, regulatory reports, and financial statement disclosures. The Senior Accountant collaborates with cross-functional teams to assess the accounting impact of strategic transactions and new products, provides guidance on a wide range of banking activities, and participates in close processes related to technical accounting matters.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • At least 5 years of progressive accounting experience, ideally with a combination of public accounting and financial services industry experience.
  • Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP and financial reporting requirements.
  • Experience preparing technical accounting research and formal accounting position papers.
  • Proficiency in financial statement preparation, accounting, and reporting.
  • Hands-on experience with GAAP accounting, financial reporting, reconciliations, and general ledger processes.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills for analysis, modeling, and reporting.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex accounting concepts clearly.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with attention to detail.
  • Solid organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines.

  • Background in banking-related accounting areas such as loans, deposits, investments, derivatives, and securitizations.

Responsibilities

  • Research, interpret, and apply U.S. GAAP accounting guidance for complex transactions and business activities, particularly within a banking and financial services context.
  • Prepare and review detailed technical accounting memorandums that document accounting conclusions and recommendations for leadership and stakeholders.
  • Support the implementation and ongoing compliance of accounting standards, including revenue recognition, lease accounting, and other emerging accounting guidance.
  • Assist with the preparation and review of SEC filings, regulatory reports, and financial statement disclosures to ensure accuracy and compliance with reporting requirements.
  • Collaborate with Treasury, Risk, Credit, and business line leaders to evaluate and communicate the accounting impacts of strategic transactions and new product offerings.
  • Provide accounting guidance related to loan portfolios, deposits, investments, derivatives, securitizations, and other banking activities.
  • Participate in month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes, focusing on technical accounting matters and ensuring timely and accurate financial reporting.
  • Coordinate with external auditors and regulatory examiners to support audits and examinations, providing documentation and explanations as needed.
  • Evaluate internal controls over financial reporting and recommend process improvements to enhance accuracy, efficiency, and compliance.
  • Assist with accounting assessments for mergers, acquisitions, and strategic initiatives when applicable, including analysis of financial reporting impacts.
  • Monitor FASB, SEC, and other regulatory developments impacting the banking industry and communicate key implications and required actions to leadership.
  • Support special projects and cross-functional initiatives as assigned, contributing technical accounting expertise and analytical support.
