About The Position

The Senior Accountant will own core accounting operations, support the monthly close process, prepare financial reporting, strengthen reconciliations, and help build a clean, scalable accounting foundation for Upserve. This role requires a technically strong accountant who can operate in the details, identify process gaps, and communicate financial information clearly to finance and business leaders. The ideal candidate brings strong GAAP knowledge, advanced Excel capability, comfort with ERP systems, and the judgment to work in a fast-moving private equity-backed environment. This person must be accurate, organized, deadline-driven, and energized by building structure where the business needs better visibility and control.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • 4+ years of progressive accounting experience, ideally including month-end close, reconciliations, financial reporting, and audit support.
  • Strong practical knowledge of GAAP and internal control principles.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups, complex formulas, data validation, and financial analysis.
  • Experience with Campfire ERP or accounting systems such as NetSuite, QuickBooks, SAP, Sage Intacct, or similar platforms.
  • Ability to analyze large datasets, investigate discrepancies, and translate findings into clear business recommendations.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain accounting issues to non-accounting stakeholders.
  • Proven ability to prioritize competing deadlines while maintaining accuracy and accountability.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or CPA-track strongly preferred.
  • Public accounting experience or audit background preferred.
  • Experience in SaaS, payments, restaurant technology, fintech, or other transaction-heavy environments.
  • Experience with revenue recognition, deferred revenue, merchant/payment processor reconciliations, sales tax, multi-entity accounting, or intercompany accounting.
  • Experience supporting a private equity-backed company, carve-out, turnaround, or high-growth operating environment.
  • Comfort building documentation, close checklists, reconciliations, and process controls from the ground up.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and execute assigned close activities, including journal entries, accruals, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, intercompany entries, and general ledger review.
  • Prepare financial statements, management reporting schedules, flux analysis, and variance commentary that help leadership understand performance drivers.
  • Perform complex reconciliations across balance sheet, bank, cash, revenue, deferred revenue, payment processing, and general ledger accounts.
  • Maintain GAAP compliance, support internal controls, prepare audit schedules, and serve as a key point of contact for external audit requests.
  • Identify accounting workflow gaps, improve close cadence, document SOPs, and help build scalable controls for a carve-out environment.
  • Partner with Finance, Operations, Sales, HR, and external vendors to resolve accounting issues and improve financial visibility.
  • Review work prepared by junior accounting staff, provide coaching, and help set standards for accuracy, accountability, and urgency.
  • Assist with budget preparation, forecast updates, account-level analysis, and ad hoc financial projects requested by leadership.
