About The Position

Davidson is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Audit, Tax and Private Enterprise practice. In this role, you would be responsible for completing more complex accounting engagements, ensuring compliance with Canadian accounting standards and tax laws. You’ll work with clients across industries such as real estate and construction, as well as community services and NPO’s. This role requires more advanced technical accounting skills, leadership capabilities, and the ability to manage complex financial tasks independently. The Senior Accountant will lead engagements, supervise junior staff, and ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial reporting.

Requirements

  • Post secondary education in Accounting, Finance, or Business Administration
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in accounting, tax, or audit.
  • CPA designation or CFE has been passed
  • Strong working knowledge of MS Office Suite and QuickBooks Online
  • Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
  • Expertise in financial statement preparation, reconciliations, and month-end/year-end closing
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with colleagues, communicate effectively, and contribute to a supportive and positive team environment.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills to convey complex information clearly and effectively.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to delivering high-quality work, exceptional service, and timely results that exceed client expectations.
  • Ability to take initiative, stay organized, and efficiently manage workload to meet deadlines without compromising quality.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the preparation and maintenance of government remittances, filings, accounts receivable, expenses, accounts payable, and payroll transactions.
  • Supervise the reconciliation of general ledger accounts, including cash, bank reconciliations, prepaid expenses, accounts receivable, accounts payable, accrued liabilities, intercompany accounts, and POS/system uploads.
  • Identify, investigate, and resolve complex accounting discrepancies, provide guidance to junior staff, and collaborate with managers or engagement partners.
  • Manage interactions with government agencies, handling information requests, assessments, installments, and ensuring compliance with CRA regulations
  • Prepare and review financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, ensuring compliance with accounting standards
  • Lead the preparation and review of complex compilation engagements, review engagements, and audits. Particularly focusing on high-risk or technically challenging sections.
  • Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to junior accountants and CPA students, fostering a collaborative and growth-oriented team environment
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, addressing complex accounting inquiries and providing strategic financial advice.
  • Analyze financial data to identify trends, risks, and opportunities, providing actionable insights to support business decisions.
  • Perform other senior-level accounting tasks as required, such as special projects, system implementations, or process overhauls.
