About The Position

The Senior Accountant is responsible for maintaining the accuracy, integrity, and reliability of the organization's financial records and reporting processes. Reporting to the Senior Manager, Finance, this role oversees key accounting functions, supports the monthly and annual financial close processes, and ensures compliance with accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and organizational policies. The Senior Accountant provides financial analysis and reporting that supports informed decision-making across the organization. Working closely with budget managers, the Fund Development team, auditors, and other stakeholders, the role contributes to effective financial stewardship, operational excellence, and continuous improvement. The Senior Accountant also plays a critical role in ensuring audit readiness, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting the organization's commitment to financial transparency and accountability.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • CPA designation completed or actively pursuing designation.
  • Minimum 5 years of progressive accounting experience, preferably including public practice or audit experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Accounting Standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations (ASNPO).
  • Advanced proficiency with QuickBooks Online.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including financial analysis and reporting.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and critical-thinking abilities.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and customer service skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals at all levels of the organization.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with discretion.

  • Successful completion of a Police Information Check with Vulnerable Sector Search and a Child Intervention Record Check.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and post journal entries to maintain accurate financial records and maintain prepaid expense schedules and ensure timely amortization.
  • Process and reconcile bank transactions and cash deposits.
  • Lead and coordinate the monthly financial close process.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Prepare and submit government filings including: Charity Information Return (T3010), WCB Reporting, Society Annual Return and GST Returns
  • Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, regulatory requirements, and internal financial policies.
  • Oversee the integration of fundraising activity between Raiser's Edge and QuickBooks Online.
  • Provide support and guidance regarding the setup and maintenance of campaigns, funds, and appeals within Raiser's Edge.
  • Partner with the Fund Development team to ensure the accurate recording and classification of donations, sponsorships, grants, and other revenue.
  • Support the development and maintenance of financial policies and procedures
  • Provide backup support for accounts payable, payroll, and other finance functions as required.
  • Serve as a delegate for the Senior Manager, Finance during absences, within approved authorities and organizational policies.
  • Support the design and upkeep of internal financial control system.
  • Propose enhancements to financial systems, reporting mechanisms, and operational workflows to improve transparency and efficiency.
