About The Position

McShane Construction Company is looking for a Senior Accountant to support active commercial construction projects across multiple states and offices, plus several joint ventures. As a Sr. Accountant, you will manage fixed asset accounting, perform monthly reconciliations, prepare journal entries, and support the monthly close process. You will also be responsible for preparing and filing various taxes and compliance documents, processing semi-monthly payroll, managing daily cash activity, serving as a technical resource for Accounts Payable, and coordinating accounts receivable follow-up. Additionally, you will support the annual audit, budgeting, and forecasting processes.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including full-cycle month-end close ownership
  • Construction or project-based accounting experience
  • Advanced level Excel skills
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance, or equivalent experience
  • CMiC experience, or experience with a comparable construction ERP such as Sage 300 CRE, Viewpoint or Procore
  • Multi-entity, multi-state or joint venture accounting exposure
  • Payroll processing experience, particularly Paylocity
  • Sales and use tax or multi-state filing experience
  • CPA or active candidacy

Responsibilities

  • Manage fixed asset accounting, including capital-versus-expense determinations, additions, depreciation and amortization, and audit support schedules.
  • Perform monthly balance sheet, payroll, insurance, prepaid, intercompany, and revenue reconciliations across operating and joint venture entities.
  • Prepare recurring journal entries, including software, employee benefits, insurance, overhead, and other cost allocations.
  • Support monthly close, including revenue tie-outs, pay application and retention accruals, income reporting, and JV accounting.
  • Prepare and file recurring sales and use tax, transaction privilege tax, and sales tax reconciliations.
  • Manage annual 1099/1096 filings, state annual reports, contractor license renewals, business property returns, and other required state filings.
  • Prepare semi-monthly payroll in Paylocity, including 401(k) and FSA funding, superintendent cost allocations, and related journal entries.
  • Manage daily cash activity, including bank reconciliations, positive pay exceptions, and cash ledger maintenance.
  • Serve as a technical resource for Accounts Payable, providing coding guidance, reviewing correcting entries, and resolving escalations from project teams.
  • Coordinate accounts receivable follow-up and collections with project teams.
  • Support the annual audit and insurance renewal process.
  • Participate in the annual budgeting and forecasting process and gain exposure to the full month-end close cycle.
