About The Position

This hands-on Senior Accountant role supports a lean accounting organization in a manufacturing and government contracting environment. You will own key elements of the month-end close process, including journal entries, accruals, reconciliations, fixed assets, inventory-related accounting, audit support, and various accounting projects. As a core member of a small accounting team, you will work independently, take full ownership of assigned responsibilities, and contribute with limited training. Candidates with strong manufacturing accounting or government contracting accounting experience are highly valued, and experience in both environments is especially desirable.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • 5+ years of accounting experience in a full-cycle accounting role.
  • Demonstrated ownership of month-end close processes.
  • Strong experience preparing and posting journal entries and accruals.
  • Proficiency in balance sheet reconciliations and general ledger accounting.
  • Experience in fixed asset accounting, including maintaining records, depreciation, schedules, and related journal entries.
  • ERP system experience with any major ERP platform.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including pivot tables, SUMIF, and lookup functions.
  • Ability to work independently during close periods and operate effectively in a fast-paced four-day close environment.
  • Strong data analysis capability and ability to clearly explain accounting work in detail.
  • Hands-on general ledger accounting experience, not focused primarily on accounts payable, accounts receivable, or data entry.

Responsibilities

  • Own and execute month-end close activities within a fast-paced four-day close environment.
  • Prepare, review, and post journal entries accurately and on time.
  • Perform accrual calculations and ensure proper recording of expenses and liabilities.
  • Complete balance sheet reconciliations and resolve reconciling items promptly.
  • Maintain and update fixed asset records, including additions, disposals, and transfers.
  • Calculate depreciation, prepare fixed asset schedules, and post related journal entries.
  • Support inventory-related accounting activities and ensure accurate financial reporting.
  • Provide audit support by explaining accounting work in detail and preparing requested documentation.
  • Perform hands-on general ledger accounting and take ownership of the accounting process rather than a support-only role.
  • Analyze financial data using advanced Excel functions, including pivot tables, SUMIF, and lookup functions.
  • Utilize ERP systems to process and review financial transactions and generate financial statements.
  • Contribute to full-cycle accounting processes, including month-end close ownership and financial statement preparation.
  • Collaborate with team members in a lean accounting organization while working independently with minimal hand-holding.
  • Participate in various accounting projects that broaden technical accounting experience across manufacturing and government contracting environments.
