About The Position

The National Research Council (NRC) is seeking a Senior Access to Information and Privacy (ATIP) Officer to join their Corporate Secretariat Branch. This role is crucial for administering the Access to Information and Privacy Acts, ensuring the NRC meets its statutory obligations. As a key member of a 7-person ATIP team, the Senior ATIP Officer will collaborate closely with the ATIP Manager and Coordinator, liaising with internal and external parties to manage requests and resolve issues effectively. The position involves processing complex requests, developing and implementing ATIP processes and procedures, preparing files, and responding to complaints from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and the Office of the Information Commissioner. Additionally, the role will contribute to projects such as enhancing the ATIP electronic case management system and conducting training activities.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a recognized university.
  • Recent and significant experience interpreting and applying provisions of access to information and privacy (ATIP) legislation in a government context.
  • Experience in providing advice and guidance to senior management on ATIP and promoting ATIP policies in a government organization.
  • Experience in reviewing and updating procedures and guidelines for the administration of ATIP.
  • Experience working with a diverse group of stakeholders, partners and clients.
  • Significant experience is defined as a minimum of three (3) years.
  • Bilingual Imperative CBC/CBC.
  • Secret Clearance.

Nice To Haves

  • Formal training in ATIP legislation and policies would be considered an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Provides services in all areas related to the administration of the Access to Information and Privacy Acts.
  • Contributes to ensuring that the NRC meets its statutory obligations with relation to this legislation.
  • Processes complex requests.
  • Develops and implements processes and procedures.
  • Prepares files and responds to complaints that emerge from the Office of the Privacy Commissioner and the Office of the Information Commissioner.
  • Works on a range of projects such as ATIP electronic case management system enhancements and training activities.
