About The Position

Performs general heavy and light cleaning and housekeeping services in University buildings, including residence halls, hospitals, and administration and academic buildings. The role may involve operating floor-care and housekeeping equipment; cleaning and disinfecting rooms and surfaces; cleaning floors, walls, ceilings, stairs, windows, furnishings, rugs, and fixtures; handling waste and trash; and performing other custodial duties. The employee maintains the cleanliness of the work storage closet and equipment. No supervision or direction is exercised.

Requirements

Ability to understand and carry out oral instructions.
Ability to stand, walk, bend, and reach continuously.
Ability to handle heavy- and medium-weight materials, equipment, and supplies.

Responsibilities

Operate light- and heavy-duty housekeeping and floor-maintenance machines to strip, wax, and buff floors; mop, sweep, and dust floors.
Clean and disinfect rooms and surfaces, including fogging rooms and washing floors, walls, furniture, and fixtures with germicidal detergents.
Wash walls, ceilings, and stairs; clean overhead equipment such as vents and light fixtures; vacuum rugs, furniture, and draperies; clean, dust, and wax furniture; make empty beds; and distribute linen.
Take down, wash, and rehang venetian blinds and screens; take down and rehang draperies and curtains; and wash windows inside and outside.
Empty wastebaskets, pick up trash from designated areas, load trash into a dump truck, and move it to the compactor area.
Wash trash cans and wastebaskets inside and outside, and clean blackboards, doors, and similar items.
Clean kitchens and dining areas.
Perform custodial duties such as moving equipment and furniture up and down stairs, tightening doorknobs and latch plates, adjusting traverse rods and brackets, cleaning elevator door tracks, changing light bulbs, and shoveling snow.
Maintain the cleanliness of the work storage closet and equipment.
Perform other similar duties requiring comparable skill and responsibility as assigned.
