SEIU Environmental Svcs Worker
About The Position
Performs general heavy and light cleaning and housekeeping services in University buildings, including residence halls, hospitals, and administration and academic buildings. This part-time position is scheduled for 28 hours per week on the UR day shift. The position has no supervisory responsibilities. Compensation is $18.38–$24.94, with individual pay determined according to the applicable collective bargaining agreement. The work includes operating housekeeping and floor-maintenance equipment; cleaning and disinfecting rooms and surfaces; caring for floors, furniture, rugs, windows, and fixtures; handling trash; cleaning kitchens and dining areas; and carrying out custodial tasks such as moving furniture, changing light bulbs, and shoveling snow. The worker maintains the cleanliness of the work storage closet and equipment and performs other similar duties as assigned. The role requires continuous standing, walking, bending, and reaching; handling heavy and medium-weight materials, equipment, and supplies; and working around refuse, dirt, dust, detergents, body wastes, and odors indoors and outdoors. Occasional exposure to infection and infectious diseases is possible.

Responsibilities
- Perform general heavy and light cleaning and housekeeping in University buildings.
- Operate housekeeping and floor-maintenance machines to strip, wax, and buff floors; wet mop, dry mop, sweep, and dust floors.
- Clean and disinfect rooms, floors, walls, furniture, and fixtures using germicidal detergents, including fogging rooms.
- Wash walls, ceilings, and stairs; clean overhead equipment such as vents and light fixtures; vacuum rugs, furniture, and draperies; clean, dust, and wax furniture; make empty beds; and distribute linen.
- Take down, wash, and rehang blinds, screens, draperies, and curtains; wash windows inside and outside.
- Empty wastebaskets, collect trash from designated areas, and transport trash to the compactor area.
- Wash trash cans and wastebaskets; clean blackboards, doors, kitchens, and dining areas.
- Perform custodial duties such as moving equipment and furniture up and down stairs, tightening doorknobs and latch plates, adjusting traverse rods and brackets, cleaning elevator door tracks, changing light bulbs, and shoveling snow.
- Maintain the cleanliness of the work storage closet and equipment.
- Perform other similar duties requiring comparable skill and responsibility as assigned.
