About The Position

ALPHA Landscapes is seeking an experienced Erosion Control Foreman/Operator to join our seeding and erosion control division, completing projects across central Iowa. We are a 100% new-construction focused company working with top general contractors and developers. We aim to create a positive work environment where employees feel valued and supported, working on significant construction projects. This role is unique as you will typically manage jobs solo or with one helper, requiring a high degree of autonomy and trust. You will be responsible for loading out, traveling to sites, executing work correctly, and documenting it without constant supervision. This is an opportunity to join a rapidly growing, stable company with typical hours of 40-60 weekly from March to December, with potential for offseason work based on skills. The pay starts at $20-26/hr, with earning potential up to $30+/hr.

Requirements

  • Verifiable experience with seeding, including setting and calibrating seed and fertilizer rates.
  • Experience operating tractors and skid loaders.
  • Experience installing silt fence.
  • Experience with straw mulching.
  • Experience with general erosion control BMP installation and maintenance.
  • Experience can be from an erosion control contractor or an agricultural background.
  • Minimum of 3+ years of erosion control, construction, or agricultural experience.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.
  • Comfortable towing equipment trailers.
  • Ability to work independently and manage your own day.
  • Strong time management skills.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Prior experience working independently or being in charge of a crew.

Nice To Haves

  • CDL (company provides free CDL training for those without one).
  • Familiarity with SWPPP requirements and construction site inspection documentation.
  • Ability to read plans and civil/grading drawings.

Responsibilities

  • Loading materials and equipment at the shop each morning.
  • Traveling to job sites, potentially multiple sites in a day.
  • Performing seeding operations, including calibrating and setting seed and fertilizer rates to specifications for permanent and temporary mixes.
  • Conducting straw mulching and crimping, and installing erosion control blankets.
  • Installing silt fence.
  • Operating equipment such as skid loaders, tractors, seeders, straw blowers, and silt fence installers.
  • Trailering equipment between sites.
  • Communicating with ALPHA project and field operations managers.
