About The Position

The Security Training Specialist is responsible for designing, coordinating, delivering, and evaluating security-related education and competency programs that support a safe, secure, and service-oriented environment across the organization. This role partners with Security leadership, Emergency Preparedness, Human Resources, clinical operations, and other stakeholders to ensure security officers, leaders, and applicable staff are prepared to respond effectively to workplace violence risks, emergency events, visitor management concerns, patient safety issues, and other security-related situations.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in security, law enforcement, military, emergency management, healthcare operations, training, or a related field required.

Nice To Haves

  • International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety certification or related healthcare security credential preferred.
  • Instructor certification in de-escalation, defensive tactics, crisis prevention, workplace violence prevention, first aid, CPR, or other relevant training discipline preferred.
  • Training, facilitation, emergency preparedness, or safety-related certification preferred.
  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in criminal justice, emergency management, healthcare administration, education, organizational development, or a related field preferred.
  • Prior experience developing or delivering adult learning, competency validation, field training, or instructor-led education preferred.
  • Healthcare security experience strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of workplace violence prevention, de-escalation practices, emergency response procedures, access control, incident reporting, and customer service in a healthcare or complex service environment preferred.
  • Strong facilitation, presentation, coaching, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to translate policy, procedure, and operational risk into practical, engaging training content.
  • Sound judgment, professionalism, and discretion when handling sensitive security, safety, and employee-related information.
  • Ability to build effective relationships with security officers, leaders, clinical teams, and interdisciplinary stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple training priorities, schedules, records, and deadlines.
  • Proficiency with common office productivity tools, learning systems, tracking spreadsheets, and training documentation methods.
  • Ability to evaluate training effectiveness and use data, feedback, and incident trends to recommend improvements.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, maintains, and delivers standardized training programs for security officers, including onboarding, annual education, refresher training, and role-specific competency development.
  • Coordinates security training related to workplace violence prevention, verbal de-escalation, defensive tactics, emergency response procedures, visitor management, patient elopement, infant or child abduction prevention, access control, report writing, and customer service.
  • Partners with Security leadership to assess training needs, identify competency gaps, and recommend education plans based on incident trends, regulatory requirements, performance observations, and organizational priorities.
  • Maintains training records, attendance documentation, competency checklists, and related evidence to support accreditation, regulatory review, and internal audit readiness.
  • Develops lesson plans, job aids, scenarios, drills, practical exercises, and evaluation tools to reinforce consistent security practices across locations and shifts.
  • Facilitates simulation-based learning and scenario discussions that prepare staff to respond appropriately to disruptive behavior, escalating threats, emergency events, and safety-sensitive incidents.
  • Supports implementation of a training tracking process or database to monitor required education, certification status, completion rates, and upcoming renewals.
  • Collaborates with clinical and operational departments to deliver security awareness education for non-security staff, including de-escalation, reporting expectations, personal safety, and emergency security procedures.
  • Provides coaching and feedback to security officers and leaders to reinforce professional conduct, communication standards, customer service expectations, and consistent application of policy.
  • Reviews incident reports, after-action findings, and operational feedback to identify training opportunities and update curriculum as needed.
  • Ensures training content reflects current organizational policies, applicable healthcare security standards, emergency management expectations, and workplace violence prevention priorities.
  • Supports drills, exercises, and department readiness activities in coordination with Emergency Preparedness and other key stakeholders.
  • Serves as a subject matter resource for security education, competency validation, and training-related process improvement.
  • Manages security-related equipment inventory control, including firearms, vests, tasers.
  • Performs other duties as assigned to support departmental and organizational safety, security, and emergency preparedness objectives.
