About The Position

SMX is seeking a Security Systems Administrator to join our Host Based Security System (HBSS) team supporting NAWCAD DNA at NAS Patuxent River, MD. This position will provide administration, maintenance, monitoring, troubleshooting, and cybersecurity support for enterprise endpoint security systems within a Department of Defense environment. The ideal candidate will have a strong systems administration background with experience supporting enterprise security technologies, endpoint management, cybersecurity compliance, and Windows-based environments. Experience with Trellix/McAfee HBSS and ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO) is highly desired. This position requires onsite support at NAS Patuxent River based on program and customer requirements.

Requirements

  • Clearance Required: Top Secret
  • Experience supporting enterprise systems administration, cybersecurity, or endpoint security environments.
  • Working knowledge of Windows operating systems and enterprise client/server environments.
  • Understanding of endpoint security technologies, cybersecurity principles, and vulnerability management.
  • Experience troubleshooting enterprise applications, endpoints, services, and network connectivity.
  • Familiarity with DoD cybersecurity requirements, security controls, STIGs, system hardening, and patch management.
  • Ability to analyze technical issues, determine root cause, and independently work through resolution.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to document technical activities and communicate issues to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to work effectively across multiple technical teams in a large enterprise environment.
  • Current DoD 8570/8140-compliant certification appropriate for the position, such as CompTIA Security+ CE, or ability to obtain the required certification within the established timeframe.

Nice To Haves

  • Hands-on experience with Trellix/McAfee HBSS and ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO).
  • Experience administering Trellix Endpoint Security (ENS) or related endpoint security products.
  • Experience with HBSS policy creation, deployment, agent management, troubleshooting, and reporting.
  • Experience supporting HBSS within a Department of Defense environment.
  • Experience with ACAS findings, vulnerability remediation, and security compliance activities.
  • Familiarity with Active Directory, Group Policy, PowerShell, and Windows Server administration.
  • Experience with enterprise patching, software deployment, and configuration management.
  • Knowledge of DISA STIGs and DoD Risk Management Framework (RMF) requirements.
  • Previous experience supporting Navy, NMCI, NAWCAD, or other DoD enterprise IT environments.

Responsibilities

  • Administer, maintain, monitor, and troubleshoot HBSS/Trellix infrastructure and managed endpoints.
  • Support Trellix ePolicy Orchestrator (ePO), endpoint agents, policies, repositories, and associated security modules.
  • Monitor system health, endpoint communication, policy compliance, security events, and overall HBSS operational status.
  • Troubleshoot agent deployment, connectivity, policy enforcement, software conflicts, and endpoint security issues.
  • Support deployment and maintenance of Trellix Endpoint Security (ENS) and other HBSS-managed products.
  • Perform software deployments, upgrades, patches, configuration changes, and routine system maintenance.
  • Support vulnerability remediation, system hardening, STIG compliance, and other DoD cybersecurity requirements.
  • Review, troubleshoot, and resolve incidents, service requests, and trouble tickets within established service-level requirements.
  • Coordinate with Windows, Unix, Information Assurance, Network, Engineering, and other infrastructure teams to identify and resolve enterprise issues.
  • Assist with testing and implementation of new HBSS policies, configurations, software versions, and security capabilities.
  • Maintain technical documentation, standard operating procedures, system configurations, troubleshooting guides, and operational records.
  • Support cybersecurity audits, inspections, assessments, and compliance activities.
  • Identify recurring technical issues and recommend improvements to system reliability, security, and operational processes.
  • Provide timely status updates and appropriately escalate technical or operational issues.
  • Perform additional systems administration and cybersecurity support duties as required.
