About The Position

As a Security System Technician – Commercial Install, you will be responsible for the installation, programming, testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting of commercial electronic security systems, including intrusion detection, fire alarm, access control, and CCTV/video surveillance systems. The technician works closely with project managers, customers, and other trades to ensure systems are installed according to manufacturer specifications, company standards, and applicable codes.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience installing commercial security, fire alarm, access control, or CCTV systems.
  • Working knowledge of low-voltage wiring methods and installation practices.
  • Ability to read and interpret construction plans, wiring diagrams, and technical documents.
  • Proficiency using hand tools, power tools, and electronic test equipment.
  • Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Ability to pass required background checks and drug screening.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights.
  • Ability to work in construction environments, mechanical rooms, ceilings, and outdoor conditions.
  • Frequent bending, kneeling, lifting, and standing for extended periods.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Install, terminate, program, test, and commission commercial intrusion detection, fire alarm, access control, and CCTV/video surveillance systems.
  • Install low-voltage cabling, control panels, card readers, cameras, locking hardware, door contacts, motion detectors, fire alarm devices, and related equipment.
  • Configure system software and hardware in accordance with project specifications and manufacturer requirements.
  • Program system controllers, field devices, and communication modules to support customer operational requirements.
  • Configure IP-based devices, including cameras, access control panels, network video recorders (NVRs), and associated network infrastructure.
  • Perform device addressing, network connectivity verification, firmware updates, and system database management.
  • Integrate security systems with third-party systems, including intercom, elevator control, visitor management, and building management platforms.
  • Interpret blueprints, site plans, riser diagrams, wiring schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and resolve system issues during installation and system startup.
  • Verify all installations meet applicable local, state, and national codes, as well as company quality standards.
  • Conduct system testing, inspections, and customer demonstrations to ensure proper operation and acceptance.
  • Train end users on system functionality and basic operational procedures.
  • Complete installations within project timelines and budget expectations.
  • Coordinate work with customers, field supervisors, project managers, subcontractors, and other trades.
  • Maintain accurate documentation, including service reports, as-built drawings, and programming records.
  • Provide customer training on system operation and basic maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and professional work environment.
  • Follow all company safety policies and OSHA requirements.
  • Adhere to NFPA, NEC, and local code requirements where applicable.
  • Properly use company vehicles, tools, and equipment.
  • Ensure all work meets quality standards and customer expectations.
