About The Position

Shell Canada is seeking a Security Specialist to join its team at the Scotford Refinery. The Security Specialist is responsible for overseeing and managing all security projects, technologies, and turnaround activities at the Scotford site. This role ensures that appropriate measures are in place to protect Shell personnel, property, information, and reputation from security risks and threats, in compliance with Shell Group Security Standards.

Requirements

  • Must have legal authorization to work in Canada on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer
  • Must have a High School diploma
  • At least 8 years of experience in security operations, risk management, or technical security roles
  • Experience with security technology systems such as CCTV and/or access control
  • Proven ability to lead investigations and manage security projects
  • Strong knowledge of security standards and regulatory compliance
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook), with the ability to learn specialized security software
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information
  • Willingness to participate in an on-call rotation and provide emergency response support as required

Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement security policies, programs, and contingency plans to minimize security risks
  • Support compliance with Corporate Security Group Standards, annual risk assessments, and countermeasure identification
  • Conduct physical security surveys, HSSE audits, and Security Risk Assessments.
  • Interpret and enforce security-related policies and procedures
  • Act as secondary Security Focal Point and subject matter expert for security issues.
  • Assist in preparing security plans for high-risk events (e.g., Turnarounds, protests)
  • Manage and update site-specific security plans
  • Lead and conduct investigations into employee and contractor security incidents, ensuring resolution and prevention of recurrence
  • Manage assurance activities for the Security team
  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial law
  • Maintain expert knowledge of security trends and developments
  • Build and maintain relationships with private and governmental security professionals, including law enforcement
  • Safeguard sensitive security information
  • Assist in managing the site’s security contract and ensure team competency for incidents and emergencies
  • Deliver security awareness training across all risk areas
  • Act as Lead and subject matter expert for site projects and turnarounds
  • Provide security project management services, including Architectural design/review Specification and selection of security technology and systems Vendor evaluation and budgeting
  • Manage security technology and systems (e.g., video surveillance, access control).
  • Provide emergency response services and coordinate activities during site-wide emergencies (Emergency Operations Center rostered position, on-call rotation)
  • Support development of security cost-saving initiatives
