This position involves patrolling assigned areas diligently, with a focus on rechecking locations where problems have been frequent. The role includes patrolling buildings to check for fire, prowlers, vandalism, and other unusual activities. The Security Specialist will make rounds of the assigned area at least three times during the shift, documenting and verbally reporting discrepancies. The individual must sustain attentiveness and promptly respond to all emergencies, knowing the locations of call boxes and fire extinguishers. Coordination with other officers, checking IDs and passes, and courteously assisting persons seeking directions or information are also key responsibilities. The role requires knowledge of safety, security, and fire protection practices, the ability to act quickly in emergencies, adjust to fluctuating situations, investigate incidents, and deal courteously and firmly with the public. Duties include monitoring alarms and CCTV, performing the duties of a Public Safety Officer (non-arrest powers), ticketing unauthorized vehicles, escorting persons, and detaining suspicious individuals. The role also involves operating a two-way radio and informing the relieving officer of important information. Additional requirements include obtaining and maintaining a valid driver's license, computer literacy, and the ability to work overtime. Familiarity with South Carolina laws and effective communication skills are necessary.
