The Security Specialist III-Public Safety position involves patrolling assigned areas diligently, with a focus on rechecking locations where problems have been frequent. The role includes patrolling buildings to check for fire, prowlers, vandalism, and other unusual activities. Responsibilities also include making rounds at least three times during a shift, documenting discrepancies, and verbally reporting them. The position requires prompt response to all emergencies, knowledge of emergency equipment locations, coordination with other officers, and checking IDs and passes. Additionally, the role involves courteously assisting the public with directions, information, or assistance. The job also includes monitoring alarms and CCTV, performing duties of a Public Safety Officer (non-arrest powers), assisting supervisory personnel, ticketing unauthorized vehicles, escorting persons, and detaining suspicious individuals while notifying dispatchers. Operating a two-way radio and informing the relieving officer of important information are also key duties. Additional requirements include the ability to obtain and maintain a valid driver's license, computer literacy, and the ability to work overtime as required. Familiarity with South Carolina laws and effective communication with the public are also necessary.
