In this vital role, you will provide strategic planning and direction, as well as tactical management guidance and tools, to ensure best practices are used to protect physical assets, proprietary information, and personnel. This includes developing and implementing risk-based asset protection plans; managing internal and external resources, budgets, and integrated security systems; and overseeing comprehensive security programs for the Amgen Puerto Rico site. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to: Analyze multiple information sources to identify security trends, assess vulnerabilities, and recommend cost-effective solutions. Manage the implementation of security processes, programs, and related initiatives. Develop and manage budgets within the assigned area of responsibility. Manage, lead, or contribute to the development and implementation of security policies, standards, and procedures; provide consultation and interpretation of established security policies, programs, and practices. Lead or participate in work-focused teams, complex projects, investigations, and programs; serve as a liaison to external public safety and governmental agencies, as needed. Conduct or coordinate internal security investigations at the direction of Legal and Human Resources, including matters related to personnel issues and criminal activity. Manage security response to emergency and crisis situations; develop or contribute to emergency response and disaster plans in coordination with local public safety and government agencies. Prepare reports, program documentation, and management summaries. Manage suppliers and external consultants supporting the mission and goals of the security function and Human Asset Protection program areas. Represent the security function to other departments and senior management. Oversee security system design for existing Amgen buildings and new construction activity. Manage the company photo ID, proprietary lock and key, and access control programs, including visitor and contractor control, badging processes, and oversight of technical services related to the installation and maintenance of security hardware and software. Evaluate department-related services and implement improvements as needed.

Requirements

  • Doctorate degree and 2 years of corporate and/or public security experience OR Master’s degree and 4 years of corporate and/or public security experience OR Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of corporate and/or public security experience OR Associate’s degree and 10 years of corporate and/or public security experience OR High school diploma / GED and 12 years of corporate and/or public security experience
  • Strong communication, presentation, and decision-making skills, with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Professional-level proficiency in English and Spanish.
  • General working knowledge of employment law and legal aspects of security.
  • Ability to translate strategic direction and guidance into tactical plans, processes, and tools that achieve strategic outcomes.
  • Strong working knowledge of security risk management practices, regulatory requirements, and industry compliance.
  • Sound judgment in protecting sensitive information.
  • Technical understanding of physical security systems and related technologies.
  • Demonstrated supplier management experience.
  • Investigative skills, including the ability to elicit and document relevant details.
  • Strong working knowledge of supply chain security standards, industry practices, and programs, including TAPA, C-TPAT, and AEO.
  • Demonstrated emergency and crisis management experience.
  • Fundamental understanding of budgeting and financial tracking.
  • Basic computer skills, including report writing, spreadsheets, internet research, and familiarity with technology.

Nice To Haves

  • Senior-level global security experience, including strategic responsibilities within the Life Sciences industry.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in criminal justice, business administration, law enforcement, security, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of industry and/or public sector experience.
  • Pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry experience.
  • ASIS Certified Protection Professional (CPP) or Physical Security Professional (PSP) certification.
