About The Position

RQ Construction is currently hiring an Underground Pipe Layer to support our Field Operations team on active construction projects in the Aguadilla, Puerto Rico area. This position is responsible for installing underground piping systems for storm drains, sanitary sewers, and water distribution systems. The role includes trench preparation, pipe installation, joint sealing, grading, and related utility work performed safely and efficiently while meeting project quality standards, schedules, budgets, and RQ's Mission, Vision, and Values. Our project portfolio includes work nationwide as well as international locations such as U.S. Naval Base Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and Puerto Rico. Requirements

  • CPR, First Aid, OSHA 30, EM-385, and STS certifications required; training provided if needed
  • All candidates considered for hire must provide evidence of identity and U.S. work authorization at the time of hire.
  • Additionally, all candidates must successfully pass a drug screening and commercial criminal background check, including a stricter Department of Defense background check, for access to job site at military base (if applicable for position being hired for).

Nice To Haves

  • High school diploma or GED preferred
  • One to two years of experience in underground utility construction or related trade work preferred
  • Experience supporting government, military, or large commercial construction projects is highly desirable
  • Previous experience within the design-build construction industry preferred

Responsibilities

  • Dig, grade, and level trenches to required depths and slopes using hand tools or mechanical equipment
  • Cut, align, position, and connect pipe pieces using welding equipment, cement, or glue, then cover and seal completed pipe runs, then cover and seal
  • Install and repair stormwater and sanitary sewer systems utilizing instruments such as lasers, transit levels, grade rods, and related tools to verify compliance and accuracy
  • Ensure all utility installation work complies with project specifications, schedule requirements, and quality standards
  • Maintain and promote safe work practices in accordance with company policies and regulatory agencies
  • Assist with work planning, scheduling, and material coordination to support efficient productivity
  • Work closely with project management and field supervision teams to address field issues to maintain project progress
  • Use appropriate equipment and tools while ensuring their safe and proper operation
