About The Position

The Security Screening Specialist helps maintain the order and security of the facility by ensuring prohibited items do not enter the secure perimeter and that contraband is detected and removed. The position is staffed and operates on a 12-hour-a-day basis, seven days a week.

The specialist greets and registers visitors professionally, verifies the need and purpose for each visit, and informs the relevant parties when visitors arrive. Visitors are recorded in the appropriate visitation log with their full name, identification number, and type of photo identification. The specialist ensures visitors pass through the main-lobby metal detector and are cleared, including consent to pat searches and checks of shoes, clothing pockets, and other specified items. Other duties may be assigned within the incumbent’s capabilities, as determined by management. The stated rate of pay is $17.75 per hour.

Responsibilities

• Help ensure the order and security of the facility.
• Prevent prohibited items from entering the secure perimeter and detect and remove contraband.
• Ensure all visitors enter through the metal detector at the main lobby entrance and are cleared.
• Ensure visitors consent to pat searches and follow the required screening procedures, including removing shoes, jackets, caps, and items from all clothing pockets; hair coverings are not authorized.
• Check visitors’ shoes.
• Greet and register visitors with professional courtesy.
• Verify the need and purpose for visits and inform concerned parties when visitors arrive.
• Record visitors in the appropriate visitation log, including full name, identification number, and type of photo identification.
• Perform other duties as assigned within the incumbent’s capabilities, as determined by management.
